I'm at my wit's end with Shiphrah and her milk. We use the Nuby sippy cups with a straw right now:

They are impossible to clean (I cannot get the stench of sour milk out of them), the parts that don't come apart get mildew in between them (don't ask me how), and they have a strange tendency to bubble up and spill when there's a pressure change. And that's only the cup's problems. More Here...

My friend, the drama queen, text me two weeks ago with a frantic message: "I bleepin' hate my life! Kill me now!" Thinking that she got laid off or her boyfriend broke her heart, I called her immediately.

She picked up and the following conversation ensued:

My friend: You won't believe this! You just won't!

Me: Are you alright?!

My friend: No I'm not. This is just horrible.

I'm getting tired of vandalism, and not just any old vandalism... vandalism that happens in the name of fun, usually by a group of young people who have not taken the time nor care to take the time to think about the consequences of their actions. When caught these offenders will often just say "we were just having fun and we didn't hurt anyone" never realizing how wrong they are.

Vandalism does hurt people just not in the way they were thinking. More Here...

Solid Foods- When Should You Transition Your Baby?

My baby is 4 1/2 months old. She has been eating rice cereal since she was 12 weeks. She was holding her head up well, didn't seem to ever be full enough, was still up every 2 hours at night, and was watching everything my husband and I seemed to eating. We made the decision to go ahead and start her on rice cereal even though everything we read said 4 months. She took to it very well, and since then we've added pears, green beans, peas, squash, peaches, apple sauce and a few others. She eats great.

At this point, I'm not sure where to go next. More Here...

How the Baby is Like a Video Game

So she's finally here. I'll keep this brief - but I gotta say, I feel like Audrey is kinda like a video game. First of all, she came in pretty cool packaging (Esther) and once she was out - she was nothing short of amazing.

First of all - the graphics are awesome. 10 fingers, 10 toes - so much detail.

Also, looking at her - I can tell there will be a lot levels. Some harder than others. I don't see many cheat codes available online - so looks like I'll have to play it through.

Although she's very forgiving of my mistakes, the game is interesting in that there's only one life. But there's a ton of power ups.

Still getting a handle on the controls though - I'm going through the tutorial part of the game at the moment, but I'm sure it'll be a fun adventure nevertheless.

Bottomline, best game ever.

Sorry Left4Dead, I think i've moved on.

A few years ago, after a particularly stressful trip to the Oakland Zoo with my remarkably large pregnant belly and a then 2-year-old Colin, I broke down and bought... a toddler leash. Oops, I mean harness. Leashes are for dogs. Harnesses, on the other hand, are for toddlers that run away, downhill at the zoo from their 8 months pregnant mothers.

I read up on the varying opinions about lea-- I mean harnesses. Sure, they look dopey, and people -- usually childless people -- are likely to point and snicker. But when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. More Here...

How Do You Find Other Mom Friends and Community?

I've been thinking a lot this last week about my social circle. It's fairly limited at the moment. I'm grateful for the friends I have made here in Austin over the last 8 months but I have yet to find someone that I would consider my best friend, someone with common interests and life experiences that I can be open and honest with. I have one friend that is close but we are still in the getting to know you stage of our friendship, a task made more difficult by our children, sickness and busy schedules.

Being a young mom it is especially difficult to find a place to fit in the community. I want to have friends my age but I also want to have mom friends with similar parenting styles. Young AP moms are fairly hard to come by. I've met a few, I hope to meet many more once I have a vehicle during the day. Having a like-minded community is so important, especially for SAHM's. There's just that point you reach where you just want to talk to an adult that you aren't married to! More Here...

Almost everyone with kids will hear at some point or other that their kids want piercings. Most little girls want to wear pretty earrings, and many kids, girls and boys, want some sort of piercing come the teenage years.

While in many cultures it's normal that all girls have pierced ears, many piercing them at birth, many people shy away from piercing because they fear the risks. It could also be that the idea of punching a hole in one's body makes them squeemish. So, many people will feel less than supportive of their child's idea to get their ears/nose/lip/eyebrow/other places pierced.

What do you do when your kids are sick? Anything in particular to comfort the queasy tummy of a two-year-old? My daughter has never thrown up until now, and hasn't spit up since she was a newborn. Any advice?
