  • The Grieving Stage- My Miscarriage Story

    Mama Whale by Mama Whale

My sad miscarriage story Right before the New Year on December 29, I was confirmed that I was 6 weeks pregnant by my OBGYN.  That day we tried to see to see if there was a sac/fetus yet, but it was a bit hard to tell through the ultrasound.  She then referred me to do a HCG blood test to see if my HCG level was doubling.  I went home drained and exhausted from the commute to the doctor that day, so I took a very long nap.

Around 8 pm I woke up and went to the bathroom and realized that I was bleeding and I knew it wasn’t a good sign.  Later, I felt I was bleeding heavier, and I was really scared so I called my OBGYN immediately to see what I could do. More Here...

  • Pain Management in Labor

    Nurse Jenna by Nurse Jenna

Though a baby can bring some of life’s greatest joys, having a baby is painful.   People experience pain differently and have different pain tolerances, so it is not surprising  that they also have different plans for how they choose to cope with pain of childbirth.   Some women have an idea before they go into labor about the type of pain management they want, while others decide to “play it by ear.”   Regardless, knowing what pain relief methods are available in advance is useful, even if you ultimately decide against it. • Am I Happy? Happiness Is...

    Mama Dragonfly by Mama Dragonfly

Happiness is... So someone asked me yesterday if I was happy.

It should have been an easy question but I found myself evading it, because I did not know. Well, am I happy? I wondered all day. I have moments of happiness, that's for sure. But I'm not feeling like I'm joyous most of the time. Don't get me wrong. I think I have a pretty good life. Nice family, good childhood, job that pays a decent wage and offers flexibility and great benefits, even if it brings down my spirit with ego-wars and office politics from time to time. There are times I want to shoot myself in the head when it gets to be too bad, but the employer pays for the dependents college tuition, so like everything else in my life, I stick with it, always thinking about my children's futures.  This is life, so suck it up, like my mom would say.

Overall,  I should be happy. I should kiss the earth and feel grateful for such a blessed life. I am more than grateful, but I just can't shake the feeling that something more is out there. More Here...

  • I'm At My Wit's End! Can You Rec a Good Sippy Cup with Straw?

    Guest post submitted by MlleBaroque

I'm at my wit's end with Shiphrah and her milk.  We use the Nuby sippy cups with a straw right now:

They are impossible to clean (I cannot get the stench of sour milk out of them), the parts that don't come apart get mildew in between them (don't ask me how), and they have a strange tendency to bubble up and spill when there's a pressure change.  And that's only the cup's problems.  More Here...

  • Holy Cow...My Mother is on Facebook!

    Submitted by The_Prestigiator

Holy Cow...My Mother is on Facebook!

My friend, the drama queen, text me two weeks ago with a frantic message: "I bleepin' hate my life! Kill me now!"  Thinking that she got laid off or her boyfriend broke her heart, I called her immediately.

She picked up and the following conversation ensued:

My friend: You won't believe this! You just won't!

    Me:  Are you alright?!

My friend: No I'm not. This is just horrible.

    Me: What's going on?

  • Vandalism- Hit Too Close to Home!

    Guest post submitted by BarryDadof3

Vandalism- Hit Too Close to Home! I'm getting tired of vandalism, and not just any old vandalism... vandalism that happens in the name of fun, usually by a group of young people who have not taken the time nor care to take the time to think about the consequences of their actions. When caught these offenders will often just say "we were just having fun and we didn't hurt anyone" never realizing how wrong they are.

Vandalism does hurt people just not in the way they were thinking. More Here...

  • Solid Foods- When Should You Transition Your Baby?

    Guest post submitted by IamKelleyK

Solid Foods- When Should You Transition Your Baby? My baby is 4 1/2 months old.  She has been eating rice cereal since she was 12 weeks.  She was holding her head up well, didn't seem to ever be full enough, was still up every 2 hours at night, and was watching everything my husband and I seemed to eating.  We made the decision to go ahead and start her on rice cereal even though everything we read said 4 months.  She took to it very well, and since then we've added pears, green beans, peas, squash, peaches, apple sauce and a few others.  She eats great.

At this point, I'm not sure where to go next. More Here...

  • How the Baby is Like a Video Game

    Guest post from chrischoi

So she's finally here.  I'll keep this brief - but I gotta say, I feel like Audrey is kinda like a video game.  First of all, she came in pretty cool packaging (Esther) and once she was out - she was nothing short of amazing.

First of all - the graphics are awesome.  10 fingers, 10 toes - so much detail.

Also, looking at her - I can tell there will be a lot levels.  Some harder than others.  I don't see many cheat codes available online - so looks like I'll have to play it through.

Although she's very forgiving of my mistakes, the game is interesting in that there's only one life.  But there's a ton of power ups.

Still getting a handle on the controls though - I'm going through the tutorial part of the game at the moment, but I'm sure it'll be a fun adventure nevertheless.

    Bottomline, best game ever.

    Sorry Left4Dead, I think i've moved on.

  • Tot on a Rope: Using A Child Harness

    Guest post submitted by eleven_bee

tot on a rope. A few years ago, after a particularly stressful trip to the Oakland Zoo with my remarkably large pregnant belly and a then 2-year-old Colin, I broke down and bought... a toddler leash. Oops, I mean harness. Leashes are for dogs. Harnesses, on the other hand, are for toddlers that run away, downhill at the zoo from their 8 months pregnant mothers.

I read up on the varying opinions about lea-- I mean harnesses. Sure, they look dopey, and people -- usually childless people -- are likely to point and snicker. But when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. More Here...

Like several others, I'm not a mother! No way no how not yet. I had read a post you did about how abortion is not a contraceptive, and it made me think more about doing things properly!! Hopefully I can be like you and be stable in a marriage and then have some PLANNED mini-me's come along. I enjoy

Don't worry, the one child that seemed to have little hair for the first year of life turned out to have almost a double thickness. Beautiful but thick and curly. If that happens, warm, olive oil treatment before shampooing help. Today, there are lots of treatments available for many prices. Goo
