Angela Norman, mother to a 14 year old girl with cerebral palsy was charged with involuntary manslaughter of her daughter. The girl, weighing in at only 28 pounds, died earlier this year from nutritional and medical neglect, complicated by her condition. A nurse who visited the home to help care for the young girl was also charged with involuntary manslaughter, and two other nurses were charged with failing to report child abuse or neglect.
According to reports, the 14 year old had multiple bed sores and showed other signs of neglect. The home in which she lived was described as "vile and filthy".
A registered nurse was to do a physical assessment every 30 to 60 days, and also inspect the living conditions. Another nurse was scheduled to visit every 6 months to also check on the condition of the home and assess the girl's health, needs, and care.
Both nurses failed this little girl when neither reported the neglect. This little girl would still be alive if someone had stepped up and done their job.
