The Same ‘Ol Song
Post from Glamorous Insanity
Every mom knows its easier to keep things organized. From cleaning days, to dinner, to date nights…it all has to be planned to make things run smoothly, right? On days I don’t organize, I feel completely out of whack. I function slower, and get lazy quicker. Planning to me is like attention is to Tila Tequila… Essential.
The problem I have with planning is planning EVERYTHING! I mean this whole mom thing is great, and planning makes me feel good but at times I wonder what is too far?
Let me give you some examples, and you feel free to tell me what is OK, and what is complete craziness.
Example 1:
Little Miss Sugar : “Mama, can we go to the park?”
Me: “No, honey, we are making dinner early today so we don’t have time.”
Example 2:
Little Miss Spice : “Mama, can you make Spaghetti tomorrow?”
Me: “What’s on the Menu for tomorrow? Let’s go see. No, looks like I’m making Turkey Burgers and pasta salad. Spaghetti is next Tuesday.”
Example 3 :
Mr. Right: “Why don’t we put the kids to bed early tonight and…..”
Me : “Sex is scheduled for Friday, You know that.”
OK, OK, I don’t plan sex…..Well, at least I don’t tell my husband when I do.I don’t really plan days ahead, but I do think hmm, “I guess we can have some romance tonight.” or “Man, I’m going to put on The Bachelor, so Mr. Right will go in the bedroom early.”…
Oh, C’mon, you know you do that too!
As a teen, I remember planning NOTHING and that felt great. Being spontaneous is an awesome feeling and I miss it! But my senses tell me to plan so much that I almost planned a “Spontaneous Saturday” for each day of the week to do something spontaneous.
What...an intellectual.
Do you plan too much in your life, or am I the only one?

We plan very generally; what we'll have for dinner, shopping trips (so that we rarely find ourselves in a store with the boys, gnashing their teeth and running into people), etc.. But a lot of our lives are just as it comes at us.
Ha, I know exactly how you feel, I am a major planner! I date someone who is my complete opposite in that sense and it is interesting at times. I am proud to say that I have made him more of a planner and his life runs a bit smoothly now at times. However, I like you, feel that sometimes my planning goes too far...I have become so dependent on my planned out day that when something goes awry I have a tendency to sort of freak out and that I know is a problem. I think it is best to find a balance in both of our situations so if I figure out how to do so I will let you know! Best of luck!
I am a big planner! I like a scheduled day! I tend to wander around aimlessly or as you said get lazy quicker if I don't have a plan to my day.
What is helping me to loosen up? Homeschooling! I am learning to be flexible, at least in some things!
I plan some things, but some things I just leave flexible.
as a kid growing up, though, I wish more things were stable & planned. 'cause now I generally hate spontaneity.
