Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno are the stars of a Dutch television show, "Guinea Pigs." In order to better understand what a woman goes through during labor, as a part of their show, they had electrodes attached to their abdomens to stimulate hard contractions.
The contractions were timed and controlled. They increased in intensity, duration, and the time between the contractions was decreased as their experiment charged on.
They lasted about two hours.
(If the video doesn't work for you, here's a
link.)
Even though I don't speak their language, I think it's pretty funny that some of their curse words translate easily.
What do you think of this experiment? Do you think it could help men to understand labor pains? Men, would you try it?

Finally, although it only lets the half of the total of childbirth pain be experienced. This was funny..but if you actually think any men will raise their hand to volunteer for this experience...good luck with that!
However, in my fantasy life as a Domme, I need this machine and if you dare scream or cry you will be asphyxiated you with my neck crushers. The end.
Women aren't the only ones stressed during a pregnancy, and they certainly aren't the only ones experiencing the anxiety. Sure, men don't actually know what labor pains feel like, but why would we want men to know it anyway? The whole point of going through labor is to know that it was well worth it once you hold your baby for the first time.
my friends and i used to play with these when one of them had one for physical therapy, they're also used as a weight loss gimmick. color me unimpressed.
@sarahsmurfette@xanga - not trying to impress anyone, in fact, that's the point.. an utter lack of impressification (see i just made up a word.. if anything is to be impressive it should be that. hehe). doesn't matter if it's american or dutch... though you are correct that the output would matter, still same basic concept, and i'm fairly certain that the over the counter types can do whatever these can even if it takes a bit of "tweeking".
How can you simulate a baby's head banging against the pelvis, causing those bones to move? What bones were moved on these men? I say they try passing a bowling ball.
I can't think of a single reason why a man would HAVE to understand labor pains. I've never heard a man yet brush it off as something minor. "I don't know why you're crying, it can't be that bad." Have you ever heard a man say that? Or anyone, for that matter?
Labor is painful. It's common knowledge, to men and women alike.
This post screams femi-Nazi to me. "Oh look, we're women and we can tolerate pain better than any strapping man!" Please.
hahahaaa! This simulation was also done in America, a doctor was hooked up and lasted 3.5 hours-- with laughing gas
@chronic_masticator@xanga - I agree, it's silly.
Next invention:
Simulate on a woman, how painful it is when a man's balls get kicked.
@Red_Apocalypse_Horse@xanga - I volunteer. I've always been curious.
@Red_Apocalypse_Horse@xanga - It hurts like hell to get full on kicked in the clit. It's a myth that it doesn't hurt if a girl gets kicked in the crotch. I've been there. It sucks...maybe we don't have to retrieve it out of the throat but it can still send a girl to the ground.
I'd like to apply this to guys who think that women are carrying on when they give birth. I had crazy contractions for 24 hours and most of those hours my husband thought it was no big deal.
Well wait a minute...
Did chicks who'd previously been pregnant, (and knew what labor pains actually felt like) hook themselves up to this deal to test it first, to make sure it's accurate? I doubt it.
Would I try it? Um no. Why the hell would I? Ok, labor is painful for you. I get it. Meanwhile, if I'd been meant to understand or experience labor pains, I'd have been born with ovaries.
Will it help men understand? Yeah, believe me, we already know it sucks for you. We're there too, we see the look on your face, the sweat on your brow, the tears in your eyes, etc. We know it sucks... since we can't really do anything about it, what the hell good would it do to "experience" it?
Typically, women are left with a baby once they're through it. These men were left with a video so a bunch of women can laugh at them and feel superior. Huge difference. Pointless as far as I'm concerned.
While I still have a few months to go before this little one is due to arrive, I know that the pain resulting from either miscarriage I had (the first brought horrid cramps when I got my first period after surgery, the second was had at home) is not something I would be willing to inflict on my husband.
Oh man, this would be a great dare.
Would give a whole new meaning to the term Labor Party.
@Jocelyn Lum@facebook - Not to detract from your comment, but -
The hell? You can comment from your Facebook acct now and not need a Xanga?
Is this true?
Giving birth is a choice, at least for women in the western world. We have preventatives called birth control (and abstinence), as well as abortion to stop the fetus in its development. I have chosen to exercise my right by remaining child-free, so that I never have to experience this pain. You can too!
Expecting undue amounts of sympathy for the labor pains you endured is about as reasonable as expecting sympathy for the pain experienced in the recovery phase after a facelift. No one forced it upon you, therefore it's your burden to bare.
@chronic_masticator@xanga - Not to mention, if we were to experience labor pains JUST like women, we would have to be exposed to the same levels of hormones that are present in a woman's system during childbirth. Many of those hormones play a rather significant role in pain suppression.
I am inclined to think, like you suggested, that this is more of a gimmick to feed a lot of women's superiority complexes.
lol....seems pointless...kind of reminds me of the silly stuff they would do on fear factor!
why should men suffer unneeded pain just because women, unfortunately, have to go through child birth? hell, it's not their fault. i wouldn't wish that on anyone if they could avoid it.
Its been that way for quite a while now.
