    Pregnancy Nightmare: PUPPPs
    284458536
This is probably the most painful (literally!) and embarrassing thing I’ll ever blog about publicly but if my discomfort helps someone else, then that will make me feel better. It all started with random itching. I thought it was the heat (since I’m in the south at the moment) so I took more showers. That made it WORSE! Finally I went the hospital over it and the nurse looked at me like I was an idiot. A second nurse came in who happened to be pregnant too and she advised me to cha More Here...

My sister had it (and yep, he was a boy) and she was miserable, it was no friggin' joke. It's not just a rash, or just "dermatitis." I think that's what most people associate it with, dermatitis. Which it's not. She said it was like her insides had a rash, as well as the skin outside. I'm pretty sure she slept naked. HAHA!

I had it. I got it a week before I gave birth. I work up from a nap and it was on me. I called my doctor and went in and it disappeared. It came back that evening. I got all types of lotion but Santa worked best. It wore off but I just reapplied. I hope you find some relief. It sucked. I even had it after I gave birth for a couple weeks. And it spread! Oh yeah, I had a boy too!

@sarahsmurfette@xanga - Sorry if this is TMI but I cant stand to wear clothes either. LOL I mean I do keep my underwear on but that's all I can take. It does itch on the inside & that's what the allergy medicine is for. Mine has gotten worse since writing though. It BURNS now because of the friction of my clothes (sometimes it cant be helped because my college has uniforms). I'm actually going to take my leave a month early because PUPPPs has spread to my feet & hands & I'm so uncomfortable. I cant even focus.

I've done everything including cut my nails & put my husband's socks on my hands. This shit is no joke. I cant sleep so I'm irritable & I hate everything!

@Karamelqt@xanga - Aveeno lotions, body wash & cocoa butter works for the skin but I have to reapply often. I have allergy meds for the insides & to sleep.

The same thing happened to me. I got stretch marks on my tummy but I was like "whatever it's common". Then they started to itch, get bumpy & raised then bleed! It got so unbearable, I would cry & scream (still do. I broke down in the shower today seeing how bad I looked). It took 4 appointments before I got a definitive diagnosis. I woke up to it spreading too. It's a nightmare!

@we_are_t_e_s_a@xanga - Thank you. I'm really trying to hang in there since I only have about 12 weeks to go (unless baby decides to come a bit early~!) but I'm still taking my leave early. My sweet hubby did more research & found out that avoiding sun exposure & stress might help. Plus since I'm at the tail end & need to see the doctor more frequently, I need more time open.

@fragility_beautiful@xanga - Keep it in mind but dont freak out. It's not a normal thing in every pregnancy. I just wanted ladies to hear about it because I didnt even know about it until I got it! From what I read, it only occurs in about 1 out of 200 pregnancies & it can happen at random. I got mine just as I got to the 3rd trimester but it can come earlier or later. I found a support group on facebook so I dont feel like a mutant freak anymore

@SHEERROSE@xanga - Somedays I wonder if this stuff makes women homicidal because my nerves are on end from pain & everything pisses me off. I try not to leave the house if I can help it. :(

It 's like this in health care.  You have to steel yourself to fight for your health.  Twenty years ago when I had the worst bladder pain of my life, but no infection, an E.R. doctor told me in front of my husband and three other people that I obviously had chlamydia.  It took  much time to get a diagnosis of interstitial cystitis, an autoimmune disorder, and more years after that to find a urologist who actually treated my pain, and didn't just say there was  nothing he, yes in those days it was he, could do.  Don't ever let anyone brush you off if you know damn good and well  you are suffering and not getting better.

@redpoppy1 - I'll check for it when I get home! Thank you.

@Pollypinks@xanga - I know, it's horrible! And it's funny because I work in the field. I went to the doctor 4 times & took pictures until someone gave me something better than "dry skin". Dry skin doesnt normally hurt & bleed (You dont have to be a doctor to know that!!). I was more worried about the baby than myself because I didnt know if this would hurt him too. Thankfully PUPPPs doesnt bother the babies. It just makes mommies irritable & depressed.

The thing I dislike most about some doctors is they think if they dont find the answer, no one else has it & they know best. I call it the "God complex". My doctor didnt dismiss my concerns but he said I had dry skin. The Certified Nurse Midwife was the one who told me what I had, what to do & use & to tell the doctor what test to run if I'm not better by my next appointment.

I hope you're feeling better now. I know what it's like to have a pain that no one can figure out. I had benign cysts for years before exploratory surgery found the annoying shits!!!
