  • Why I Decided to Cloth Diaper

Why I Decided to Cloth Diaper

When G was about 5 months old, I started looking into cloth diapers. The ones I looked at were cute, and not at all what I thought they would be. I remembered flat pieces of white cloth, pins, and plastic covers. Not these super cute pocket diapers with all these super cute designs on them! All the colors! The pictures! The different brands! The different styles!! Pockets were not the only ones. Oh no, there are pockets, All In Ones (AIOs), All In Twos (AI2s), fitteds, and flats and prefolds a What next...

First of all, are you really sure G is yours? She is so stinking cute.

Second, you have seriously made me consider it if I ever have another. I think this was informative and well read. If I were a cloth diaper manufacturer I would want to send you some samples so you could blog about them.

I AM!!! I never really did like disposable diapers (expecially during the tape days) & after reading a story about how one baby girl got a rash so bad, she needed oral antibiotics, I was pro-cloth. It's got a high up front cost but for the money you save in the long one, it's worth it. I'm saving mine though because we plan on having more kids so I want to keep them for the next 2 babies

I come from the dark ages with kids in their thirties, and I saved money by putting them in cloth.  It's light years from there now, and with the choices moms have, I'm envious I didn't have them.  So I had all these visions of grandeur when my grandson was in-utero of putting him in Bummis diapers and covers, since I would have him 3 days a week.  Saves well into the thousands, usually around 3 grand to use cloth.  Well, his parents had different plans, and have kept me supplied with Huggies diapers.  I don't think they'd mind that much if I did my own thing, and on three occasions did just that.  I think it's better for the skin, and you don't wait until the diaper is "soggy" do change it, but the cloth diaper and the cover, for me and baby, were very bulky, and the elastic around the legs left marks.  I'd check all the brands out there, as there are a gazillion, and you can keep him/her very comfortable, and can save a ton of money. I just didn't want to buy another kind after spending around $150.00 for my personal use.  And by the way, depending on what you use, mine just fold inside the cover, you can use these things probably for the rest of your life for a plethora of uses.  So soft, washes faces and hands well, when out grown can clean with, you name it.  But we haven't had bad rashes because we change a lot, and the one time we did, it had to do with his eczema, and a good zinc oxide will fix that very quickly.
