We built a bodacious sand box for 9 year old and 1 year old grand children, and we've all had more fun in it than you can imagine. Taking a little water to make molds, watching the baby move with his little hands handfuls of sand from one place to the next. If I had the energy to sit there all day, he'd play there all day. It's just been a really neat neat thing. Next year we'll tackle the swing set, but this summer grampa was recovering from two knee replacements, and working with my son on the sand box was all they could pull off. Also, I noticed when granddaughter came into my life at the age of 6, she hadn't spent any time with play dough. I have my own salt dough recipe that's fabulous, so teaching her the basics of that was fun. I also have a recipe for dough that you can make your own Christmas tree ornaments out of. Just design and make them, put a small hole where you want the top, and bake them, then paint them. Kids love to see their own work on a tree.
