A Childhood Memory

It was last week, I think, that @Shadowrunner81 suggested that I post a favorite childhood memory. It's actually a memory I recently shared on a post of Ikwa's. It was something I hadn't thought of in so long, but one day she had posted a picture of a caterpillar and it brought back the memories of how I spent many summer daysWhen I was a kid, I lived in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It's where I lived until I was 10 and in Hershey, I lived not in town, but more out in the country. We lived in an old farm house and not far from my house, maybe about 3 or 4 minutes, my grandmother lived, it was my dad's mother. When I would visit her and it was nice out, I would spend my days outside. I loved being outside, sitting under trees in the grass.
I would bring a jar, or sometimes a very small box if I had one, and put grass, leaves and sticks in it. I would a little home and find a caterpillar. The caterpillars around my grandma's house were black, with blue/silverish color, I think. They had no hair and on their sides were a design that I always thought looked like penguins going down their sides. I don't know what kind of caterpillars they were and I was looking through google and couldn't find any pictures of them.
But she had a lot of those caterpillars at her house and I would find some and hang out with them for the day. I would talk to them and find new things to put in their home I made for them. I'd carry them around the yard with me in their home I made and they seemed to like it. They stayed with me until I'd put them back in her flower garden. I remember having a lot of fun hanging out with caterpillars and spending time outside. They are definitely some of my favorite memories.
What are some of your favorite childhood memories?

My younger sisters and I used to play in the "woods" behind our house in Alabama. We loved swinging sticks to clear out bike paths and finding cleared out areas that we would use as hangouts. There was also a little creek (probably more of a ditch now that I think of it) that we called the Baby Grand Canyon (the Alabama red/orange clay gave it that miniaturized Grand Canyon look). I love those memories. I have so many of them.
My friends and I would pack a lunch, complete with Kool Aid, and hike out in the woods in their back yard. Very fun.
