  • A Few Truths from a Mom of Boys

    * Always check the toilet seat BEFORE you sit down.

    * No matter how long you fight it, poop jokes get funnier and funnier.

    * When giving directions on where to find something, RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE may not be specific enough.

    * "Fighting" is a totally acceptable form of play

    * If you're not bleeding profusely or have a limb snapped, you're not hurt that bad and you can probably just "walk it off"

    * Having a dog is a necessity

    * Cuddling with mom is very important. Until you're 6. Then it's only very important sometimes.

    * If play weapons were real weapons our house would be an arsenal.

    * If you bake something like muffins or cookies around here, you better eat what you want right away or hide it because it will be gone when you decide you're ready to eat one.

What else should we add to this list??

I have 2 boys.. teenagers. We never allowed toy weapons, but I concur with most of your comments, especially the food one. My goodness, I wonder where they put it all sometimes, they are surely not fat. Their high energy affords them a high metabolism I guess. They are blessed like that.

thank you i guess this is whats to come! farting is totally funny at our house right now but mine is only 2 1/2

The only difference between my boy and yours is that mine finds poop gross.  The only poop jokes I have to suffer through are from his daddy.    And yes, we've got a foam rubber and plastic arsenal, too.

I'm a girl, but when I was 7 I found it embarrasing to admit that I cuddled with my mom, or that I did ANYTHING with her at all. When she dropped me off at school she had to park in a side street so the other kids didn' know she gave me a ride.
i was always afraid of poop though. Literally, afraid. I had nightmares about it.

ok what is it with boys?? I swear since mine turned 4 everything is either a gun or its crash & smash? I do not get it, and I dont know where he got it from (im assuming from other kids because he is not allowed to watch shows with guns or fighting).

I've had both, and now having a grandson brings back all the memories of banging around with toys, climbing, and so forth.  My neighbors used to call me, they all had kids the same age, girls, and our kids would play together, and they'd be shrieking on the phone, "He's up in the treed!"  And I'd toddle on over and wonder what all the fuss was about.  When he was about 11, my husband bought him a real bow and arrow, and they spent time on weekends up in the hills practicing archery.  So I don't think avoiding arms is necessarily an all or nothing thing.  In his teens he was allowed a B.B. gun, again, for games up in the hills.  When we found holes in the basement walls, we took the gun away.  Hands down, people like to say it's how you raise them, and yes, you can raise them to be loving and caring, and to share a love of reading etc, but boys and girls are different.  Accept it, own it, and find ways he can thrive in his boyhood.  Mine was riding a BMX bike at the age of 5. Would beg me to let him ride with the bigger kids, but that would come later, with skateboards, snowboards, baseball, long distance running because he's scrawny, and, broken bones.  Just embrace him for who he is, cuz you ainta gonna change him.

My son turned 6 in July and all the sudden I'm an embarrassment apparently...lol, the other day he wanted cuddles and made sure I would not tell any of his football friends. And the rest - yep definitely agree with!!! ;)

  • sarahsmurfette@xanga

@dewdroptear@xanga - Maybe the OP knows where to get one...unless she made it. Hahaha!

  • thatkyliegirlx@xanga

I don't have kids, but I think the "right in front of your face" one stays with men forever. I don't like gender stereotyping, but I've never met a male that can locate ANYTHING... unless it's his and very important to him.

  • LadyGwenivere@xanga

@thatkyliegirlx@xanga - LOL yup! Thats my hubby, and my dad, brother, nephews, our son, AND my best bud (and his wife says their sons are the same way!)
