Tell Me Tuesday: Teething Remedies

We've all been there... the crying, the drooling, the chewing, the attempts to bite off fingers and toes. It's teething, and it keeps us up at night wondering how we can help our little one through the discomfort.
So tell me, what worked for you? What products, old wives tales, and neat tricks did you try?

Yes, I have helped my sister in law many a nights with my teething nephews. I would put a warm washcloth on their jaws and keep it on there for a period of time. Also, teething necklaces worked for them

When my little sister was teething, we used orajel. It numbed her gums so she didn't hurt anymore. Works for tooth aches for adults too! And if you pluck your eyebrows...
Amber teething necklace works wonders on my son :) We also use Camilia and Hyland's Teething Tablets
Hyland's teething tabs, Orajel, and he chews on everything. I also let him sleep more. Being asleep helps him deal with his teeth.
I used to put on one of those rubber toothbrushes that go over your finger and just let my boy chew the hell out of it. We reserved Baby Orajel for bedtime.
coliccalm.com It's completely herbal, and both our doctors swore by it. It helped to calm my grandson down long enough to get some sleep, and give him some relief from whatever it was that was causing the crying. We have colic in the family, as well as acid reflux, and it's also used for teething. You can buy other gripe waters in stores, but they don't pack the punch this stuff does. 35 years ago they gave my daughter paregoric, which is a narcotic, and not given anymore, but man oh man, did she get over her colic fast. Then my Aunt remembers calling the doctor at two a.m. in tears, and he asked her if she had any whiskey in the house. She said yes, but she didn't drink, and he said no, silly, not for you, for the kid. And a generation further back used heroin and cocaine regularly.
I went the easy route... I kept ice cubes and a wash cloth on hand so she could work her gums and cool off since she was teething in the summer, i kept frozen celery in my freezer all the time cuz boy did she love those ridges and the cold and the frozen mini eggo waffles were her bff and mine too as long as she had one of those things my lil munchkin was always a happy camper. At night I would rub her gums with clover oil so she could sleep.
Sidebar> I knew someone who would put (of all things) Analease on her baby's gums. She said it was the best thing ever, tho I can't say I would have tried it. Ijs.
@Pollypinks@xanga - wow I had forgotten about paregoric! My mother and grandmother thought that stuff was a cure for everything. And it kinda was!
When we've had severe teething days with grand baby, we've resorted to a dose of infant tylenol. That's after using the Sassy Teether, and Oral Jel, and everything else we can find. My kids didn't have these issues, not teething until well after one year of age. I'd be giving them a bite of food, and I'd feel a bump, and know another tooth was in. My daughter had one tooth at 14 months, but now, at 35, has no cavities. So I guess that's a pro, and the con was I mashed up food a little longer.
