  • Bullied {Video}

    This morning I opened my e-mail, just like I do every morning, to get started for the day. Usually there's junk and spam, and some important things to take care of. One e-mail was simply titled, "bullied". Alright, I take a peek and see what's up.

    This is the content of the e-mail:

    "Hi, I'm 15 and wrote this, lyrics and music, because of a personal experience. I did the video myself too with a Canon Rebel and iMovie. I was not going to let them break me. Reality, if it shows that it bothers you, they'll just do it more. I hope my song will help those that are starting to feel torn down — to rise up! Don't let anyone make you a victim. They aren't worth it.

    Could you give it a shout out? I hope you like it enough to do that.

    Megan"

    So I clicked over and I watched and I listened. Now I'm sharing. I'm asking you to share this video, send this post around to everyone who know. There are moms against everything, let's band together and be moms against bullying!

    Bullying is one of the worst forms of abuse I've ever seen.  My own children, in their 30's, experienced this, but didn't tell me about it out of fear of more bullying.  If I knew I had a child bullying  others, it would stop, and it would stop now.  I would come down so hard, and so long, man, this subject is horrible.  The suicides of gay teens are rising.  Kids slightly different.  Minorities with accents. My kids are biracial, and there was teasing in high school P.E. of my daughter, right in front of the teacher.  About her race.  What kind of jobs are these parents doing at home?  And then I hear from my husband, who's a teacher, that kids spew out political things to other kids, and he teaches grade school!!  My gosh!  This never happened so badly when I was a kid!

    Love her voice, lyrics and the song on the whole. Bullying happens to everyone and it doesn't stop when you're an adult. But things would get a little better if you're stronger to put a stop to it yourself?

    My personally opinion is that she can't sing but.... i like the lyrics!

    This is a petition I feel strongly about.  It's to lower the rating of the documentary "Bully" from R to PG-13 so the kids who need to see it can, and the parents of kids who need to see it won't feel as squeamish about taking their child/ren to it.

    Bullying is amoung the worst things that can happen to someone.  What's worse is when you tell someone who can do something about it and they choose to the believe the wide-eyed innocent look your attacker gives them.  Because clearly they have nothing personal against you, so why would they say such mean things to you?  Then why would you ever ask for help again?
    I was lucky in that I was never physically abused -- but only because everyone who attacked me somehow got the idea in their heads I would beat them worse than they could ever beat me.  (I honestly don't know how this happened.  Maybe just because I'm bigger than most people, and that's scary in a female.)  Nonetheless, it was one of the happiest days of my life when I got to transfer schools and get away from all that history that gets built up going through the public school system with the same people from kindergarten.  The second happiest day was when my little brother got accepted to my school, as well (a magnet 6-12 arts program).
    Being bullied does not make you a stronger person.  Rising above it, by fighting back (verbally or physically, if you really have to), getting away from it, learning empathy, learning how not to treat people from your attackers -- that's what makes you a stronger person.
