A Mother's Tattoo: Stretchmarks

Stretchmarks are the kind of tattoo that some will either show off proudly or try to cover up. For me, I don't care. With each pregnancy, a new squiggly line appears (or several, I certainly don't count them) and it's just another tattoo of the love and joy.
But for those who want to get rid of them, there are so many options!
What have you tried? Has anything been successful?

Time lightened mine after the bright purple ones I got with my twin pregnancy. Thankfully with my singleton I got no new ones.
My girlfriend showed a photo of a woman with stretch marks after the birth. Needless to say, I've seen the unseen and I will never forget it lol.
You cant get rid of stretch marks (they're scars) but you can fade them. The best thing for stretch marks is prevention. There's tons of creams & methods you can do to minimize your chances of getting them, including controling you weight gain.
Also, pay attention to your legs. Rapid weight gain spreads to the legs at times so you can get stretch marks on the tops of your legs during pregnancy.
I pretty much don't care. I don't really have any reason to show this region of my body, so my husband is the only one who sees them. And he doesn't think of them as disgusting or gross, he sees them for what they are - something that happens to your body when you have a baby. It would be nice if they just disappeared, but I accept that they're here to stay, and I don't stress about them. If this is all I have to stress about, I'd say it's a pretty good day : )
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Stretchmarks aren't scars! You can get rid of them it sometimes just takes a long time!
I don't have any children yet but I have plenty of stretch marks from growing really fast as a kid. I've had them for as long as I can remember. Backs of my knees, backs of my arms, on my hips, on my breasts. They have faded over the years, I don't mind them. I was rail thin as a kid (tall and lanky type) but I was covered in stretch marks.
I know once I start having children my stomach will be riddled with them, but it's OK, by that point in my life it won't matter.
@fromprivatetopublic@xanga -
Actual stretch marks are similar to scars in that they can't/ won't just randomly squish seamlessly back together and leave no trace on the skin.
They fade, some people are lucky and don't have deep stretch marks so when they fade there is little physical difference, but others, myself included have deep stretch marks and while mine have faded you can FEEL the indentation of them.
@DirtyAndShaken@xanga - This was beautiful and I completely agree :)
@fromprivatetopublic@xanga - Stretch marks are a type of scar and there's probably a billion different opinions on whether you can get rid of them or not.
I'm 22 weeks and waiting for them to appear. I'm more curious to know if I will have linea negra or not.
I'm pregnant with my 4th, and have never got any stretch marks. I feel pretty lucky!
My mom's stomach looks like the first one but she had 3. I have stretch marks just from being fat. And then I hated them so I cut them, and now they're just faded scars. To fade it I used co-co butter. It took about a year but they have faded a lot by now. I have some normal stretch marks since then but I'm trying not to worry about them
I don't ever plan on getting pregnant but if I do I will prob be in for a storm of stretchmarks! I think it's a much more noble cause if they're from pregnancy haha
Stretchmarks don't really bother me. Never have, never will. They're just part of my life's journey and when I have a baby in the future, I will take them as a happy reminder of my pregnancy journey.
I think the best bet would be to avoid pregnancy at all costs.
Pssh forget the stretchmarks. I want to get rid of my saggy pouch. At least you can't see the stretch marks with clothes on.
@christygraves@xanga - So lucky!! I got them at three months with my first.
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - I tried all of the creams and lotions and didn't gain that much weight (30 with my first, 20 with my second), but I'm a small person with non-stretchy skin. I got much worse stretch marks with my second (less weight gain!), especially on the insides of my thighs, I got vericose veins and they're just a part of who I now am! LOL! Battlescars of mommyhood!!
@OhFiddleheads@xanga - I didn't notice my stretch marks with my first pregnancy until after the baby was born, they were all hiding on the underside of my stomach, and under my boobs once they went back!
@fromprivatetopublic@xanga - Also, not everyone can get rid of them. A lot of it depends upon your family history and your own unique maternal biology. They fade naturally over time but on most women they will never go completely away.
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Prevention doesn't always work. I used different creams and lotions and didn't gain much weight at all while pregnant because I had gestational diabetes and two hours after every meal my doctor had me up on the treadmill to control my sugars (ended up on insulin anyway). Still got stretchmarks. I got them when I was pregnant with my first baby too, at age 19. They're all pretty much still there, just lighter.
I'm a bigger woman already with stretch marks. Mine aren't really a noticeable color, though, so it doesn't bother me. I would be proud to wear the motherhood tattoo :) when that time comes. I think too, even if I weren't already with them, I would still feel the same, proud.
Thankfully the women in my family can just apply cocoa butter 3 times a day during their pregnancy and they never got one stretchmark. I am hoping that my luck is the same. Women shouldn't be ashamed of stretch marks though. It is a symbol of something natural and beautiful! It is a permanent memory of a wonderful blessing.
@amyunicorn@xanga - lol That's what happened to me. All my stretch marks were under my belly button, so I didn't think I had them at first.
I'm 21 and I've had stretch marks since I was about 13 since I grew so fast. I'm 5'11''. The stretch marks can go to hell. I want them gone.
I don't have them on my stomach. The ones on my thighs faded. Only the ones one my breast remain but they are barely noticeable.
The only thing that helped my stretchmarks.....TIME
