A film developer questioned pictures that led to the discover of a teacher gagging and blindfolding young students. Lt. Carlos Marquez from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept. stated that some of the pictures had depicted blindfolded children with giant cockroaches on their face while others showed girls blindfolded with a spoon up to their mouths with human bodily fluid on them.
The accused, 61 year old teacher Mark Berndt, who was a teacher at Miramonte Elementary for 30 years. The principal, Martin Sandoval, stated that the pictures were enough to remove the teacher. At least 23 kids may have been abused. Parents were informed by news reports, not by the school. Officials are trying to identify 10 more children in the photos.
Berndt had the children believing they were just playing a game. So, when your child comes home from school and you ask what they did today, make sure you listen. Please talk to your children about child abuse because usually the abuser is someone close. Just to let everyone know; many abusers use "games" as their gimmick.

I literally feel sick to my stomach. As a future early childhood educator, I have no words. My heart is breaking over the fact that someone would use their power over children to commit such awful crimes. A teacher is supposed to do everything for the benefit of the child, protect them from abuse, and provide a safe environment for them to grow in. I can't even imagine a punishment harsh enough for this sick, disgusting man.

So, when your child comes home from school and you ask what they did today, make sure you listen. So true. I went to a body safety class where they talked to the parents about how to teach their kids about body safety. She had so many stories about how parents had cutesy names for private parts (i.e. pocket book = vagina) and when the child would tell the teacher or come home and say "someone touched my pocketbook" they would just turn away, because they weren't actually listening to what the child was saying. So sad.

I read this on CNN. This story just made me so disgusted and sad. School is supposed to be one of the safest places..especially for children. Parents trust schools to take care of their kid and give them a proper education. It's just so sickening. They're children for crying out loud! They're the future and to destroy them, that young, by a TEACHER, none the less, is just so wrong.

I read about this in my newspaper a few days ago. It's absolutely appalling and disgusting. Of all people, teachers?!?!?!?! My prayers go out to the children and their families.
I'm also bothered with the fact that the parents found out from the NEWS REPORTS first and not from the school directly.
