How Do You Overcome Excessive Saliva During Pregnancy?
Excessive saliva during pregnancy is terrible. Not only does it ruins our images, it also influences people's first impression of us.
I have been having excessive saliva for weeks now. Sometimes, I need to bring a bottle along whenever I am at home or go out with friends. Sometimes, I'd forget to bring the bottle with me. I even went to the fitting room to take out a sanitary napkin from my bag, spitting the saliva into it since that sanitary napkin absorbs 'water'.
Nowadays, I tried to bring along a handkerchief but that does not work that good. It can absorb the saliva partially only. Last week, I was in the flight for 2 and a half hour. The handkerchief was soaked. Luckily, one of my T-shirt was in the bag so I spit it into it.
Seriously, excessive saliva during pregnancy is not good. I never seem to find a food or cure that can stop it from happening.
Dear readers, how do you overcome it?

Haven't ever encountered this problem during my pregnancy. Didn't know it was common?
Might wanna fix the title, Momaroo. Should read "excessive," not "obsessive."
I read that it is more commonly associated with severe morning sickness. You know, that feeling right before you gag or vomit, you have more spit in your mouth? Well I hope it goes away soon, but either way it should go back to normal once you have you baby.
I read certain things aggravate the condition. Mainly irritants like smoke, heavy fragrances, stuff like that. Also dental conditions. I'm pretty sure all dental insurance policies allow a 3rd cleaning during pregnancy - if that applies to you.
I'm not obsessed with saliva. Are you?
@NightCometh@xanga - HAHA I did not even catch that but I am definitely embarrassed and laughing my head off right now. Off to correct that!

Since I was also constantly thirsty, all the saliva (that I was not obsessed about) got swallowed with the water I drank.
My roommates who dip use a spittoon. ;)
yes, I'm kidding.
maybe.
but seriously, just swallow.
ambiguity intentional.
I think you meant that your handkerchief did not work that well, not that good. Have you considered just swallowing your saliva? The spitting sounds disgusting.
I swallow!
i went through this with my first pregnancy, i had a baby boy. now on my third pregnany,so with the same problem,,sooo iim convinced this ones a boy also. yea its very annoying... but you should try, getiing a large cup of ice and chew away. ummm... sunflower seeds are helpful... saltine crackers are ok. nothing really cures it but i hve found these things helpful. GOOD LUCK
and for you non-spitters...its IMMPOSSIBLE to swallow
What about sleeping? My saliva is so bad I got only three hours of sleep last night, constantly spitting too a soaked towell. And I agree about the swallowing, not o.k..
This is my second pregnancy and I am spitting yet again! I had twin boys last time and was spitting right until the delivery date...There is nothing you can do about it...I carry around a bottle with me and spit...With the first preganacy I didn't want to go out anywhere...This pregnancy i go every where and just spit in a bottle if I have to. I don't really care what people think...If they ask i tell them and if they just stare who gives a shit! You cannot swallow bc the taste is awful! It's like you are sucking on a penny all day. I think if you decide to swallow all day you would feel really sick. I haven't tried ice but sun flower seeds do help. Do not eat things with sugar bc it just makes you spit even more.
It is not easy to just swallow, when I tried to swallow I gag or vomit. It get so bad I can't even keep it in my mouth for long. I am only eight week pregnant and between morning sickness which often happen at night, unable to eat, tiredness, and bloated. I am going crazy. I am due in Nov and it already seems like a life time. I love the idea of being pregnant because it is a blessing but my morning sickness is driving me off the hall.
@lifeasif - I also just found out I am due in November and so we should probably be 7 / 8 weeks. I can't fall asleep my face hurts from the saliva. I have to keep running into baths and showers because the hot water is the only thing that solves the problem, I don't know why. You should try it, I know it may sound inconvenient but when its close to bed time all i want to do is rest comfortably!!
