Weird After-IUD Removal Morning Sickness
I am 5 months post-partum and recently had my IUD taken out due to side effects. For the past week I have been feeling nauseated and my belly has gotten bigger. I remember thinking at one point, "It looks like I am 4 months pregnant again! I need to stop eating Christmas cookies!"
I finally Google'd my symptoms and found out that morning sickness is a common side effect of having an IUD removed. Oh jeez!
I didn't have morning sickness with my pregnancy, so I am looking for suggestions. I have tried lemon-ginger tea, pepto, B6, and eating small portions with no relief. Any other ideas? Has anyone used Emetrol?

I had some morning sickness, but mostly nausea when pregnant with my second. I used and loved sea bands. It's like a tennis bracelet cuff with a pressure knob on it that somehow reduces the nausea etc. I didn't believe it would work but when I looked further into it and saw that chemo patients were having positive luck with it, I was sold. To my shock it worked for me. Whether it was real or placebo, I don't know or care, cuz I stopped gagging.
Peppermint tea, bland foods, eat slowly, drink lots of water, and yoga. Those all help me with my chronic nausea.
try dry crackers in morn before betting out of bed..it helps settle stomach...
candied/crystalized-ginger?
preggo pops?Man, I hope it goes away soon!Gosh I wish I knew. Were you on a hormonal IUD?
I recommend not ever getting an IUD. My
mother had one for ten years and later got a total hysterectomy after she had the IUD cut out. It has severely affected my family and my relationship/interaction with my parents. My mother's personality totally changed at 50 years of age.
@mkazama@xanga - Yes, it was the hormonal one. I have a history of reacting badly to all hormonal birth controls though. I think that for most people, the IUD works pretty well with minimal side effects.
@sarahsmurfette@xanga - I tried them for sea sickness once and they didn't help me much, but maybe I will try again!
I had morning sickness all day, every day, for seven months straight. Nothing helped. Ever. From the time I woke up till I went to bed, I vomited everything. I survived on small sips of Gatorade and a few chips or fries throughout the day.
@LupusInvictus@xanga - Ah, see I have the nonhormonal IUD. Other than mild to severe cramping before my period, it's been a joy.
Try Bonine or Dramamine. (bonine is non-drowsy). I took it my whole pregnancy to help with Morning Sickness and it works WONDERS!!!!
I had morning sickness but not terribly. Most of the time I was fine as long as I kept something in my stomach at all times. A friend of mine told me to try eating a raw potato but I never tried it, maybe it'll work for you.
@kstorm234@xanga - Raw potato! That's a new one, I wonder if it matters what type...
That is so weird. I have one as well, but my symptoms don't include that. Thank god! I can't wait to get mine removed.
Have you tried preggy pops?
@sexymamabear@xanga - Do we all really need to see your ass and thong?
I had an IUD for 7 years with no problems. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. My daughter's had one for years, sans problems. For nausea, I like 7-up, or Coke, with saltines.
@Pollypinks@xanga - It is definitely the IUD, it is common for women who have trouble with other birth controls to have this reaction, trust me, I wanted it to work!
@thedenverhousewife - Someone gave me some when I was pregnant and I liked them, but no one sells them where we are!
In my opinion, Emetrol doesn't work. The strong, cherry taste actually makes me feel worse; for a nauseous stomach, it feels overwhelming. The only medicine I've found that helps is
Zofran, which is an Rx.
I have chronic nausea, and for some reason bananas usually help. Also, it sounds weird, but freezing Gatorade into popsicles works too. You can break the popsicles into chips and suck on them to get some sugar down without gulping anything super sweet.
I hope you feel better soon.
@the_rocking_of_socks@xanga - That is awful. I hate the great unfair aspects of pregnancy...like the fact that some women have HG, and others barely have even just nausea their whole pregnancy (I had a friend like that...she had ZERO nausea or vomiting with first baby, and when she got pregnant a second time, she had maybe a whole *week* of some more intense nausea - but no vomiting!! - and absolutely FREAKED out like the world was ending or that pregnancy was soooooo unfair, LOL. She never even barfed once). I wish it could just all even out and every woman puke for a few weeks, then be done with it....
