  • Hyperemesis Gravidarum Experience

I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. During these 14 weeks, I though I only suffer the so-called heavy morning sickness, throwing up 24/7 every single day, hating certain smells that can trigger the vomit session.

What else? Tired for 24/7 till I lose my mood to do anything including washing the clothes.

3 days ago, I was vomiting out the food particles like usual, then the food particles followed by BLOOD! I was panicked, I was afraid something going to happen to my miracle bundle of joy! So I went to the hospital, ended up staying in the hospital for 3 days and 2 nights. It may be unexpected to stay there but it is a good thing that the doctors and nurses are so caring, making sure the patients receieved treatment few times in a day.

Because of that, I only realized that,no, I do not suffer morning sickness but hyperemesis gravidarum which is much worse than typical morning sickness. You see, I am thankful that I was in hospital to receive treatment because at least, I no longer feel like vomiting now. I gained my stamina in doing things again, too, after 14 weeks of suffering.

But, doctors have advised me to drink lots and lots of water in order to stay healthy for myself and the baby.

Dear readers, have you experienced hyperemesis gravidarum? And how did you overcome it?

I've had it three times!  I lost 22lbs with my first, lost 26lbs with my second and didn't gain any weight with my third.  I think totaled all together I spent almost a month of my life hospitalized for this, with one stay of 5 straight days and another one of 8 straight days.  It was horrible, I feel for you!  I survived simply because I didn't die!  (So, not kidding!)  In my last pregnancy, I went to a midwife and she suggested EmergenC.  That really helped me a lot!!  Good luck!

What helped me? Zofran. Worked wonders. Convenient delivery too, because it's a raspberry flavored, tiny disk that dissolves in your mouth. You won't throw up on it. I can almost guarantee.

Yep, had it with both my children. Zofran saved my life! I was Rx pills to take while I was pregnant and by 20 weeks I didn't need them anymore.

Took me til i was puking up the blood to get me to the hospital the first time around too.  But I didn't wait so long for the second pregnancy, knowing that I was a lucky one that Zofran helped!  I think I was 16 weeks before I knew the drug existed with #1.

Nothing helped me.  I puked for seven months straight with absolutely no relief, from the moment I woke up until I went to bed, and sometimes waking up in the night to puke some more.  I ended up with some nasty bleeding ulcers that thankfully healed after the boy was born.

(((((Hugz))))  Hyperemesis is EVIL.  I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, and I'm sorry you're going through it.   I found a lot of support at the hyperemesis.org forums.  They're also doing research to learn more about it.   Hang in there!

I've been pg 3 times. each pregnancy I had hg but didn't know it. I wasn't diagnosed til my 3rd pregnancy in 2006. helpher.org was a good site to be available. To read that I was completely not alone. I threw up alot. I got down to 65 lbs. But bc I didn't throw up enough I was never admitted to the hospital. Never prescribed any medicine, never had any IVs, drunk a lot of shakes, threw em up but it felt good to get some flavor in my mouth. Water ~ I HATE that advice. Water no doubt would always make me throw up. It was my ultimate trigger. shakes & more shakes for me, along w always laying in bed & mustering up energy to give my 5 yr old attn. He helped out a lot also. sometimes he'd set on the bed w me & read me a book. That was so appreciated
