  • Do You Do Personalized Ornaments?

We have ornaments that were given as gifts, including ones for our children that are personalized with their name and things such as "1st Christmas". I know they can make a cute gift tag of sorts for a baby shower near a holiday, but do you hang them up every year?

We have some that are personalized for life events, like when we got engaged and when we got our first house (which was an apartment we were renting... that one should have waited until we purchased our house, but it was a gift). When we were decorating our tree on Black Friday, I wondered about other people's trees and whether they kept those special ornaments packed away because of their sentiment, or if every year they adorned their tree, even if the baby was now 6 years old.

    So what do you do?

What are some of your favorite personalized ornaments?

I love personalized ornaments.  I've been collecting them for a few years now, except they all seem to be too heavy for our little faux tree so we are saving them for when we get a real tree, or at least a bigger, heavier tree.  We have ones to note our first holiday living together, but my favorite one (so far) is a key marked with "2009" for the first Christmas in our house.  When we have kids, we intend on getting ones to mark those events, as well.

Every year I give my god daughter a Christmas ornament. Its something special that can be just her's, and she told me its one of the gifts she always looks forward to. this year will be the 14th and I already have it picked out and ordered. Because she has so many now she keeps them all in a chest and puts the one on the tree that she got the year before. Then on Christmas Eve she opens the new one, and it goes on the tree as well.
This started when I started buying her the Precious Moments figures for her birthday, thank goodness I ran out of those!! =)
I love this tradition, and its something we are starting with our kids (4 and 1) this year.
My personal favorite ornament is the one my husband got for our 1st Christmas together. But the angel my birthmom made and gave me comes in a close second.

I had one that said babies first christmas 1990. Then I got another one just recently. My grandma is an artist and she made me one :D I've always had MY personalized ones from when I was in Girl scouts and stuff and made them lol.

I wish I had some . I'd put them up. It seems like a nice way to get a feeling of belonging together in the family.

My daughter gets one with her picture, name and year on it every year. =) I think when she's older she'll enjoy them. (She's only 15 months) I got one with my name and date on it every year until I was 18. I LOVE them! They go on the tree every year =)

We have a few of the "Baby's First Christmas" ones for my sister and I, and a few family ones with all our names on them. Also, in kindergarten I made an ornament from a giant seashell by gluing glitter, pipe cleaners, and little snowflakes to it - it won first place in the school ornament contest, lol. I'm 25 and it still goes on the tree every year - and it will go with me when I get my own place and my own tree.

In our household, the family tradition is that my brother and I get one new ornament for the tree every December. I love seeing ornaments that were especially picked out for or by us as children. When I was younger, I danced, and so I have 4 or 5 ballerina ornaments, symbolizing the years I did dance. Stuff like that is just really special... When I have a house and family of my own, I am allowed to take all of my ornaments and to start the tradition with my own kids. I can't wait. Oh and we also always go chop down our own real Christmas tree. We have never had a fake and I feel so blessed for it. The smell and sight of the tree is amazing. Oh, I really want it to be Christmas now!!!!!!!!

All the women in my family make an ornament to give to everyone else in the family. There isn't a single store bought ornament on any of our trees. We write our names and year on the back. Means a lot to me now that I'm an adult.

I have some that are from my daughter and one with a picture of my dogs. It sucked when I unpacked the Christmas stuff the first time after my divorce because I had all the ornaments from my marriage and one's I bought for him. I ended up giving most of them to him even though he never has a tree.
