Angela Norman, mother to a 14 year old girl with cerebral palsy was charged with involuntary manslaughter of her daughter. The girl, weighing in at only 28 pounds, died earlier this year from nutritional and medical neglect, complicated by her condition. A nurse who visited the home to help care for the young girl was also charged with involuntary manslaughter, and two other nurses were charged with failing to report child abuse or neglect.
According to reports, the 14 year old had multiple bed sores and showed other signs of neglect. The home in which she lived was described as "vile and filthy".
A registered nurse was to do a physical assessment every 30 to 60 days, and also inspect the living conditions. Another nurse was scheduled to visit every 6 months to also check on the condition of the home and assess the girl's health, needs, and care.
Both nurses failed this little girl when neither reported the neglect. This little girl would still be alive if someone had stepped up and done their job.

May the little girl rest in peace.

This really sickens me. How did these nurses even get their job if they're going to fail at doing the most important parts of their job right?
It's also extremely unfair how people like this piece of shit can reproduce, and people that would make wonderful parents can't. This world is backwards.
Some people are fucked up.
That's terrible.
I'm glad that they are holding the nurses accountable too though.
@armsraceofsound@xanga - She was nutritionally neglected, meaning she wasn't given proper food. Basically, she was starving.
Sad. All it would have taken was ONE to step up, but SEVERAL did nothing. How tragic!
I am thankful to hear that the nurses are being held accountable for this, as is the mother. They are giving the good nurses who go above and beyond the call a bad name.
30 -60 days??? Thats crazy...
A friend of mine has a sister who's daughter has cerebral palsy.. she has a nurse come in once a week, a social worker once a month, and another nurse in once a month to help with the care for her daughter.. and she is tiny as well, about the size of a 5 year old though she is 12.
The only positive that comes from this is that the poor young woman is no longer the victim of sub-standard care.
@armsraceofsound@xanga - cerebral palsy
This is incredibly sick and saddening. My 22 month old weighs that much.
@nihaokeisha@xanga - I agree wholeheartedly! This is just disgusting.
This is horrible and very tragic.
It's horrible and heartbreaking. The nurses who were charged deserve to lose their licenses (and go to jail) for not reporting that child's condition.
@xjadersx@xanga - Doesn't mean anything. My brother has cerebral palsy and he's normal weight and height for his age and always has been. Everyone else that I've known with cerebral palsy (I've known a few that were also in schools with my brother) were either at a normal weight or even a higher weight. Cerebral palsy can affect people in so many different ways.
I hope her daughter is happy, free, and full of love in heaven. Running around with the biggest smiles on her face. Having a terrific time. She is safe up there with God and His Angels. They are looking after her and treating her beautifully.
Rest in peace girl.
We love you completely.

@rafi09@xanga - She probably wasnt able to function much :( But yeah, that really doesnt make too much sence, unless her organs were really small as well? Because all of those account for weight too.. Im n ot sure.. But either way, thats messed up and she needs to go to jail for life (as well as those nurses..) If I were a nurse, or anyone who knew abotu this, I would report it in a heartbeat!
This world is such a sick place.
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - the longer article said the nurse came 6 days a week, and HER supervisor came every 30-60 days- which in a way makes it all the more tragic- she was there almost EVERY day and didn't intervene?
I have trouble understanding why so many adults would fail to act on this situation. I wonder if there's more to it?
@armsraceofsound@xanga - She's also probably fed.
Looks like she a shortage of twinkies wasn't the problem.
That sickens me.
Shit like this makes me so angry. My sister and her husband have twin girls with schizencephaly, one of whom passed away over two years ago. I cannot say how much I look up to both my sister and bro-in-law because they have always done an AMAZING job taking care of their children, including the twins. Their children never go without for any reason.
Then when I hear about things like this "mother" and those shitty nurses letting that little girl die, it makes my blood boil. How damn hard is it to report a case of neglect? That little girl was probably completely defenseless. How could they just let her die? Were there no grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, nobody around to help her? This is just sick.
@the_rocking_of_socks@xanga - yeah, but 28lbs? that's two stone. that's not possible, not if she's a normal height.
