  • The Waiting Game

    Pregnancy is the worst waiting game...

    It all starts after your period. You begin the wait... you count the days until you are ovulating. However as you count the days usually you are waiting to have sex until you know for sure you are ovulating. Than after the 3 or 4 days of prime fertility have passed, you begin the wait until you can take a pregnancy test, or for you period to be late. If you are like me, tests that say can detect pregnancy 6 days before missed period do not work for you. Therefore I had to wait a 5 or so days after my missed period to get a positive on a pregnancy test.

    Yippee, PREGNANT, and just when you think the waiting is over, it has just begun.

    You call you doctor and they want to do blood test, well you go in Monday, than wait until Tuesday for the results. Than you have to go again 48 hours later, so more blood drawn on Wednesday and wait until Thursday to get the second set of results. Everything comes back positive, but you still had that 24 hours where you were waiting for the results.

    After all the results come back positive, than you must wait another two weeks to be able to see your bundle of joy for the first time. To see the most magical thing in the world, your baby's heartbeat visible on the screen. And that the baby measurements coincide with what a 8 week fetus should measure. Than after you have a great 8 week u/s, than you wait until 12 weeks to hear the most magical thing, your baby's heartbeat because now its strong enough to detect, and for the reassurance that everything is wonderful in the womb. After that you wait for the kicks and rolls that you will begin to feel around 16 weeks, giving you the constant reassurance that everything is still okay. And at 16 weeks you hear your baby's heartbeat again. Only another 4 week wait, and at 20 weeks you get to know that your baby is developing hopefully right on schedule, and depending on your decision, finding out the sex of the baby.

    If your doctor is like mine, that is the last medically needed ultrasound, unless something goes wrong, so unless you pay for the 3d/4d ultrasounds, now is the longest wait, up to another 20 weeks before you get to rest your eyes on the beautiful miracle that is your baby.

    Just wait, for patience is a virtue, and perfection cannot be rushed.

    Do you remember your waiting game? How did you keep yourself busy?

    I'm currently playing this waiting game. I'm 15 weeks along, now. My next Dr. appointment is in two weeks. The ultrasound isn't until September 30.

    However, it's not so dreadful to me. I've been planning my wedding, so I've been kept busy.
    And, just to clarify, the wedding was being actively planned a year and a half ago. No shotgun wedding for us.

    I felt like all I ever did was wait.  at 7w I had spotting and had to wait unitl the next day to see the doctor and u/s to make sure baby was okay.  And then you wait more... I was lucky to have extra u/s because baby was measuring funny (lucky b/c all worked out and she's perfect!).  I then had tons of complications in my 3rd trimester and was hospitalized off and on for a month total admitted with lots of waiting for nurses, doctors, specialists, lab results, etc.  And then waiting to be induced.  It's a lot of waiting, but so worth it!!  Hurry up and wait... the story of pregnancy!

    @skylar_rose@xanga - Congrats on both!

    Yes, the waiting game is the hardest. When I found out I was pregnant with #2, I couldn't wait to start showing and feel his movements. However, as I quickly approached the 3rd trimester, I no longer wanted him out and just wanted to stay pregnant forever. He's now a month old and I definitely do miss being pregnant but being 9 months pregnant in the summetime was definitely not easy. I'm glad he's here!

    Pregnancy is hardly the "worst" waiting game. Try waiting over 3 years just to get pregnant. I'd gladly just have sex and poof, wait 9 months and bring home a baby...
