  • Young Babies And Toys

This is a guest post from Best Baby Shower.

When someone invites you to come to the baby shower, what can be given as a gift? Clothes, shoes, diapers, diaper bags or other items? Some people consider toys as cute items that can be given as gifts at the baby shower party.

Toys can be an alternative option; believe it or not, even babies under 3 months have been able to explore their world through play. But does a newborn baby need toys? In the first days, a baby does not really need toys. Babies in the early days need time to get to know their surroundings, such as getting familiar with the faces of family members. But following those first days of course babies need toys; toys are useful to stimulate the baby's development. For example, maybe you've seen a baby's legs look lively when put on a flat surface, and then stamp her feet? A kicking gym is recommended to stimulate the foot agility and build leg strength.

Choosing Toys for Babies 0-1 years

When you go the toy store, you will be impressed to see so many kinds of toys there. Remember, when selecting toys, you should consider the level of safety. Basically, the toy should not have sharp angles, parts that are not easily removable, is not easily broken or ruptured, large enough so that can not be inserted into the mouth and swallowed. Make sure the toy is nontoxic, not flammable, and washable. Stuffed animals should be one part; when a hand or foot is also connected securely. The face should be painted (by nontoxic paint) or embroidered, so there is no eye of buttons that can be pulled and released and then swallowed.

Moving toys help develop baby's ability to pay attention to the object. Balls that emit sound or have parts that move in it a stimulating visual, motor, and auditory, as well as helping the baby to develop crawling, eye movements,  and improve motor skills.  Toys that jingle will also attract baby's attention through touch, color, sound, and taste. Baby rattle toys are designed to stimulate the growth of the tooth. Don't forget, the toys should not easily break, have no loose parts, and should be washable.

Make sure you choose toys that are age-appropriate toy baby. Do not buy a toy because of its' cuteness but one that the baby will be able to play with.e toys

I just got my cousin some toys, off her registry, for her babyshower, lol. A rattle and a teether. Both probably won't get used right away and I did want to get useful things, but I was trying to stick within my budget and on a very little registry list.

My daughter is now 3. She loves play tea sets and any kind of little doll, like little people. It's so fun to watch her play with them in a doll house, on a school bus or anywhere. Good for the imagination!

When John was just born, he loved his bouncy seat...there were spiders that moved up and down that he could kick and grab.  he had an activity table that did all kinds of things that made him giggle once he could pull himself up.  He had many things that stimulated him visually or physically. He had books from day one.  It started with the cloth/plastic books and evolved to real ones.   I do think toys help, and they can add to the interactions that you have with your baby.  I like to buy toys after the child is born.  The toys my son liked won't be the ones that every baby is going to love.  My son would have loved the toy in the picture with the parts that spin, his cousin would have hated it, but he would have wanted the simple one with the colored rings. Unless requested, I tend not to buy toys at a baby shower.  I do buy them later as just because gifts.

My standard baby shower gift is a few onesies and soft pants, socks, and some chewable toys.  My son's favorite baby toy was a teddy bear with rubber feet.

My oldest is almost 4. She's getting to the point where she'll see ads on TV and be like "MOMMY I WANT THAT!!" She likes any kind of toys. Cars, dinosaurs, princesses, animals, even likes kid computers. I think she's going to like video games and animals. My youngest is 9 months and she doesn't really care about colors, but she likes toys that make noise--battery powered or not. She'll take two blocks and hit them together. She likes playing this little piano. I think she's going to like music a lot.
