  • Working Until I Go Into Labor

With Izzy and Gabby, I worked right up to the day I was induced. With Izzy, I was a server. Technically, I didn't work RIGHT to the day because I was put on bed rest for a weekend before it was decided to induce. She was born 18 days before the due date. Gabby was induced 5 days early.

My blood pressure has been a little high at my last two appointments. Thinking about this is starting to make me nervous because the wedding I booked yesterday is only 11 days before my due date. I guess, worst case scenario, Jason gets to shoot that wedding.

I guess that's the downside to working right up to labor: You never know when that will be for sure.

I didn't even think about it until after I had booked the wedding. My only initial thought was that a week and a half should be fine.

Working moms, how long did you wait before going on maternity leave?

I don't plan on going on maternity leave with my second (when that happens).  I didn't go on maternity leave with John.  The only time I took off was when I had surgery during my pregnancy.  Even if that wasn't extremely painful afterward, I think I would have had to murder everyone in my family in order to leave the house.

I'm due on mOnday, I took Friday off since I'm SO sick of work. So I am hoping I have the baby before MOnday so I don't have to go in! I'll probably take 9 weeks off after.

Era was due during finals week of my first semester of college. I was induced because of being "high risk" even though I wasnt showing any complications during my pregnancy. Went in Thursday at 8pm, gave birth at 11:20 am on Friday, didnt get home Sunday afternoon because there were complications!  Luckily I had 5 weeks between semesters, just enough for her to be old enough to go in daycare when I started the spring semester. 5 weeks was alright to bond and I was formula feeding her so I didnt need to pump. Now my daughter is 2 1/2 and Im a junior in college. I am definetly learning "how kids work" with my Early Childhood Education degree. Im sure ill forget if I have a second kid after I graduate.lol. I think I might take the first two years off for my second child!lol. I wouldnt mind being a homemaker for a little while.

It depends really...with my 1st--I worked 2 days before I had him.  I actually was supposed to work the day before--but something happened and I was taken off the schedule (I think....now I can't remember....)--but, I returned to school when he was about 3 weeks old.  I was a senior (he was born Aug. 14th) so I took off until after Labor day break!  Otherwise I didn't return to work until he was probably 10 week old.  With my 2nd--I was off of work a week or 2 before he was born (only because I was working at a student-teacher ratio based school--and the ratio was to low, therefore they didn't need me!  So I was let on maternity leave early!  And I didn't go back until he was 10 weeks old--their choice--not mine!  I was ready at about 6 weeks!).  I am hoping that we can plan a June baby--so that I can enjoy the summer with him/her (I am a teacher!) before returning to work...but we will see what life has in store for us!

With my first, I went out at 38 weeks...and then induced at 42 LOL! That was a boring month of waiting and waiting and nada.

With my second, I called in on Friday because I strongly *felt* like I shouldn't go. My water broke Saturday morning. Tada!

I actually went to work the day I went into labor with my son.  I had been in labor from about 12am and I worked from 8am until 3:30pm that day.  I needed to wrap some things up and my labor was slow and steady, so it wasn't a big deal.  I went to the hospital about 4pm that day and was dialated 5cm, so I did have my laboring at work.  I plan to do something similar this time around as long as there are no complications.

I worked right up until my water broke.  I was actually feeling pretty bad that day and my husband asked if I should go in and I did.  That night after I got home, my water broke and my son was born the next day.  I'd do it again the next time around.

I was planning on working up to my due date, and actually had to get a doctor's note so I could stay home if I were to go overdue... but during my last day at work I went into early labor! I made it through the day and delivered at 9:00 AM the next day (my due date). I'm a teacher, so I'll have about 4 months off until I go back to school next year in August. I'm very happy my little one cooperated with my hubby's and my planning and is very punctual!

eh, I ended up on bed rest, so that's when I was done working, lol. Then I had a two week maternity leave and headed "back to work" (we were apartment managers, so the office was connected to our apartment. Still, it wasn't pleasant having to put in a full 8 hour day with a newborn. Glad that's over!)

My first pregnancy was with twins. I was put on bedrest at 29 weeks -- there went my preschool job. With this pregnancy I'm a sahm.

If I have a job when I'm pregnant, depending on how my husband feels about it and my medical situation, I'll probably work for as long as I can. As for after I have the baby? I won't be working again until all of my children are in college, unless something happens that would make it so I had to start working again before that. But, I'm going to be a stay at home mom. The time when your children are still living under your roof is when they need you the most, and I am certainly not going to let my children be raised by a day care because I want to work. How selfish is that? Like I said though, If I end up having to work, I most likely will, unless my husband doesn't want me too.

I had to go on maternity leave a month before I had my son.  I was working as a baker, and my belly got so big that I couldn't open the oven.

Holy crap, I commend you. I can't imagine how people can work pregnant. I can barely survive a trip to the grocery store. Pre-pregnancy I was always fit and tough and a work-a-holic.. But I was like 10 weeks pregnant when I had to quit my job. It was a new job though, and it was heavy work, and they were getting mad that I missed so much work because of Morning Sickness. They didn't know I was pregnant, because my other job FIRED ME when they found out, so I was scared to tell. After that, I tried to get a job I was used to, but no one would hire me because I started showing. So I haven't worked for the whole pregnancy, pretty much, and I couldn't imagine how I would. I can't even stand long enough to shower. So wow, I have a lot of respect for you ladies.

I had a teacher this semester who worked right up until our final. She didn't show up to our final because she was in labor, but I thought it was crazy.
