Early Menopause?
I am starting to wonder if I'm experiencing some symptoms of early menopause due to my hysterectomy. I did some research last night and it is possible after a partial hysterectomy (where they remove only the uterus). While the probability is low, it definitely can and does happen.
I've been having hot flashes every few days. I've been moody and I've gained some weight in the past several weeks. About 4 pounds in about 3-4 weeks. And I am 99% sure its not from having a 'mini period' like I did in April. It's already mid-May and if I was going to have one it would have been early May. Well over a week ago, at least. So I am certain my periods are done.
I also read that after 1-3 years the ovaries completely shut down. And without a uterus, I no longer make progesterone for my body. Which apparently I need. And when my ovaries die I won't have any levels of testosterone anymore either. Which women do need some of that to be healthy.
I knew having a hysterectomy would throw my body off but I didn't realize how much until I researched about early menopause.
If this is early menopause, it totally sucks to go through at 25 years old. I want to make an appointment with my doctor to discuss the possibility of having a reduction done here instead of waiting until we move back to Virginia. I'll have to mention my symptoms to her then and see what she thinks. I mean, the weight gain and moodiness could very well be from the post partum depression...but I don't know if hot flashes happen with depression or not.
Hmm....
Has anyone experienced these symptoms or gone through early menopause?

I had a partial hysterectomy at 29. I'm not 58. At aroun 38 or 39 I started having periodic hot flashes, and they progressed over the years. I tried various natural things that did squat for me, and eventually went on estrogen therapy. You'd think I'd be over it, but I still have the flashes if I go off of it. It's just one of those things I'm not willing to live with, because it did get so bad that my head would be sopping wet.
A good friend of mine was thrown chemically into early menopause (fertility treatment reaction unfortunately). She was in her upper 20s at the time. Within 5 years, she was getting softening of the bones, hot flashes (that started pretty early on though), hair loss, and those skin discoloration marks on her cheeks (I can't remember what they're called).
Another friend of mine started hormone replacement treatment within a year of her hysterectomy (she was 23 - she did it because of endometriosis which I think was the wrong choice but there ya go). She seems to be doing better than my other friend. All she's had are hot flashes (as far as I know).
There's risk and benefit to every choice unfortunately. Has your dr discussed hormone replacement with you?
