Breast Milk Baby Doll....Really?
Apparently a toy company, Berjuan Toys, has created the world's first breastfeeding baby doll. Ugh, congrats? I don't really have anything else to say about the product, but you guys should definitely check out the video. But just so you know, it's creeeepy (in my opinion, at least).
What do you think about the Breast Feeding Baby? Would you buy it for your child or is this just going overboard?

I don't think I'd go out of my way to purchase this doll, no.
If my daughter, one day, just took one of her dolls and pretended to breastfeed, that's not a big deal at all. I don't see how that's any different than pretending to bottle feed a baby doll. Both are accpetable ways to feed real babies, obviously.
I just wonder if people are upset that it encourages girls to pretend to breastfeed with the bra thing or if it's just that it encourages breastfeeding period. I've heard people make the comment that it's aiding in young girls growing up too fast. So, again, how would that still be any different from pretending to bottle feed? wouldn't just playing with dolls, in general, lead to girls "growing up too fast?" So, I find a lot of that just ridiculous and feel people overreact.
I feel the complete opposite. It's very discouraging to see a whole range of dolls that come with a bottle and nothing that promotes breastfeeding. Some of us are big believers in breastfeeding being the best first choice, and to have a doll that offers this option is wonderful. To some, it's not a big deal, but to some of us, it's a nice option.
Personally, I don't see the point of this doll. I remember always "breastfeeding" my dolls when I was a young girl because I was copying my mom. I didn't need any special doll or bra or anything like that because I already had everything I needed, haha. All I had to do was lift of my shirt. Tada!
Although it's a nice thought to "promote breastfeeding," I still don't see how babies that come with bottles discourage breastfeeding. I never once had to give my daughter formula, but she had PLENTY of bottles of expressed breast milk. Bottles do not automatically mean formula these days...
@Brilliant_Innocence@xanga - @DirtyAndShaken@xanga - I would have to agree. Like the video says at the end - "A Life Lesson." Would you think it strange for a kid to dress up as a doctor or a policeman or fireman? What about baby dolls that come with pack and plays, strollers, cribs, diapers, etc? Personally while it is different, I'll grant you that, it is cool that it is promoting breastfeeding awareness. Perhaps it will let girls know from a young age that breastfeeding is natural and normal and they shouldn't let others make them feel otherwise.
Now, I have to say - I never saw anyone breastfeed ever. In fact, I'm pretty sure that everyone on both sides of my family bottle fed formula. I'd be shocked if any of them did otherwise. (Now this doesn't count my grandma I guess because my mom and aunts were all grown before I was born so my mom *thinks* her mom bf most of them but she's not sure.) So I wasn't exposed to it. To me, a bottle meant formula. So while I respect the opinion that a bottle doesn't always mean formula I have to say that this definitely makes it clear (with the sucking sounds and motions) that this baby is nursing. Although I'm sure it would seem realistic to be eating from a bottle if you stuck one to its mouth as well.
Odd, but not terribly so. Isn't it just Baby Alive without the fake food?
AHHH!!!! to me that just screams the Maury show! Seriously... I thought it was bad that 16 and pregnant was all hyped up... this is going to make 6 year olds want babies!
I don't see what the big deal about this doll is. I see many of the little girls that I babysit breastfeeding their dolls. On the other hand though, I would give it a more unique. "The breast milk baby" is a little bland in names.
I don't know, maybe it's because I didn't live with my mom after the age of three, but I never pretended to breast feed my baby dolls. Not once. The only problem I have with this ad is that it seems like it's encouraging little girls to become moms--which is absolutely cool. But it's not necessarily a life lesson that a little girl must learn. Some little girls don't grow up to be moms.
I'm pretty sure that what's bothering people is the idea of anything sucking at a young girl's (lack of) breasts. It's a subconscious reaction motivated by an "ewww!" factor. Once they really stop and think about it, they realize that they can't condemn this doll without also slamming the dolls that come with the bottles.
Let me take a moment to unstick my eyes from the back of my head where they rolled and became lodged.
First of all: old news. They've simply rebranded the doll for English-speaking countries since the original came from France or somewhere.
Second, let's take a moment to think: since breastfeeding is discouraged in public and plenty of women don't breastfeed, not ALL children even know that it exists. I didn't, until sex ed classes came around in 5th grade. It's just introducing a natural concept into a child's natural environment, which involves a lot of pretend play.
The doll's not an issue, unless you make it one.
There's nothing horribly wrong with it, but I found it a little creepy tbh.
Honestly I think it is a good idea. Not all babies drink from bottles.
That video is so weird it makes me think it's a joke...
$89. REALLY??
I don't see anything wrong with it. I wouldn't buy it though, my daughter "breastfeeds" her normal dolls.
Who produced that video? Whoa boobs!
Honestly, the whole "baby doll" ordeal is disturbing to me, always has been. Why are we giving children dolls to play "house" with? It's weird. Go play in the sandbox.
Then again, it could be because our society places gender roles this way, giving boys legos and building blocks, and girls baby dolls, setting the normal standard and what we expect of their gender to do. Subconsciously.
I think it's pretty gross. XD But I think breastfeeding is pretty gross anyway.
So whatever. lol
@mevlink@xanga - I never "breastfed" my dolls...granted, by the time I remember having dolls, I was like 6 or 7, and my sister didn't come along until I was 10, and though I think I might have logically known that babies are breastfed (I don't know if I did, I'm just saying I might have), I never really considered doing it and by the time I saw it, I was too old for dolls.
Honestly, I see both points, it depends on my child.
I find this totally normal. I breatfed my dolls all the time. I'm the youngest, but was still around people who breast fed babies, it was natural and normal for me to pretend this.
It's an interesting concept, I would not go out of my way to buy this doll for my children, but if I saw my child pretending to breast feed a doll I wouldn't think twice about it.
uhhhhhhhhhh.........
this isn't the first one... or, this is just the english version. the same type of doll was on xanga within the last couple of years.
mmm titties
I wouldn't mind my daughter pretending to breastfeed -- she'll be seeing it soon enough but to buy a special doll that comes with a shirt thing for breastfeeding is just odd.
I heard about this awhile ago but... MAN that commercial was... you know, I really don't have any words for it... It's definitely not something I'd get for kids...
That girl was not very excited at all... this is weird. Oo
