  • Let's Talk About Bullying

I am not a mom yet, but I am due to have a little boy in July. One of the things I think it's safe to say that all moms worry about is bullying, regardless of whether your child is the bully or the victim.

I was watching a bullying segment on the news last night and it featured this YouTube video of a smaller young boy picking on or bullying an larger young boy.
If you watch the video you will see what happens after.

Although I think the victim reacted very aggressively, I do think he was just defending himself.

What are your thoughts on this Momaroos? Did he defend himself or did he himself turn into a bully?

Yep.  Notice the pipsqueak didn't go after that kid again, did he?  I don't like fighting but in this case I think it proved a point.  He didn't continue pummeling on the little runt after making his defensive stand nor did he verbally taunt him afterward.  He simply stood his ground to be sure the other kid wouldn't retaliate and then left.  Good for him!

I am surprised - usually it's the big ones picking on the scrawny ones.  Man that skinny kid had no sense did he?

Yeah, he was just defending himself. Hopefully, the other kid learned not to start fights and be a bully.

Wow, that was a pretty intense body slam, but I was shocked by how hard the scrawny kid nailed the big kid in the face in the beginning. I'm not one to condone fighting like this, but sometimes you just have to stick up for yourself. One of my best friends was not a fighter at heart, but he did get into three fights throughout all of high school and I have to say that the other guys all deserved the butt kicking he gave them because they had been bullying him for years. Apparently my school (a Christian school) agreed with me, because I don't think my friend got suspended for more than a few days, which is NOT the normal punishment for getting into a fight. I think the whole school cheered for him when he came back to class.

I think that fighting is always the very last answer to a desperate situation. The people who can benefit most from this clip is not the kids that are the same age but the adults. They need to look at this video and say "What could we have done?"

Wow!  I'm glad the bigger boy stood up for himself and made an impression.  I'm afraid my oldest is going to have bullying problems in school.  He seems to have the proverbial "kick me" sign on his back.  Kids are always picking on him and being mean to him on the playground, and he's only 4.  As soon as he's old enough I'm putting him in Tae Kwon Do or Karate or something like that.  He needs to learn some self-defense skills and self-dicipline and I think combat sports are good for that.

gosh this makes me so mad! i'm not technically a mother but i consider myself a mother of my siblings (if that makes any sense) but what disgusts me is the fact that who ever the hell is video taping this could have stopped  the kids from getting to the extreme yet he/she stands their and records the entire thing!! wtf you dumb piece of shit! the same thing with the children just standing around, why they hell didn't they go get  a teacher or an adult?!

the kid that was getting picked on just fought back a little too hard. it wasn't a balanced retaliation.

@Adrenaline_Unknown@xanga - The smaller kid (and several others) had been picking on the bigger kid every day for years.  I'd say it was very balanced.
