Creatively Announcing the Sex of Your Baby
In a few weeks, I will be finding out the sex of my baby. I respect parents who wait to find out, but I just think it is fun to know!
I am trying to think of creative ways to announce the sex and here are some of the interesting ideas I have come across:
- Bring two boxes to the ultrasound. Fill one box with girl things and the other box with boy things. While you have your eyes closed, ask the technician to leave the appropriate box and take the other one (you can suggest that the technician donates the box to a mother in need). Tape the box closed, so you aren't tempted to look, then open the box at the baby shower.
- Try to sell an envelope announcing the sex to the highest bidder at your baby shower.
- Write a blog where the sex of the baby can be found hidden in the text (maybe by putting together the first letter of each line).
- Create a puzzle that others have to put together in order to find out.
- Frame the ultrasound picture and add a name tag announcing the name (assuming you choose a name which gives away the sex).
- Take a picture of your belly with a name tag or colored ribbon stuck to your belly button.
- Drop hints, but refuse to confirm anyone's guess (LOL)
- Start a pool where people guess the sex. Gather everyone together and discreetly place either a chocolate (if they guessed right) or a sour candy (if they guessed wrong) in each person's hand. Ask them to react, but not say anything until everyone has received a candy.
Does anyone have other suggestions? How did you find out the sex of your baby and how did you tell your family and friends?

These are cute, but I would probably stick with the ultrasound picture with the name tag. While the others are fun ideas, nobody is as interested in your baby as you are, and probably wouldn't get excited enough to suit me. :)
aww these are super cute ideas!! but i wanted people to know before the baby shower, that way they can get gender appropriate clothing and decoration or whatever. i'm not a fan of gender neutral stuff though, so that may just be me. lol.
i like the box idea best though.Awww! I love the first idea! These are so cute!
I love the first idea, not only are you annoucing the sex but helping out another family by donating the unwanted items :)
first idea is awesome!
Really cute ideas. I wish I'd searched for ideas like this more with my two kiddos I have now. We had a boy and then a girl. We found out at the ultrasounds with both of them what gender they were. Well, with this one we wanted to experience NOT finding out until birth. I'm SO excited about that. Although I can say wholeheartedly, if we didn't already have one of each I wouldn't be able to go through a pregnancy without finding out - it would drive me crazy! *lol* I figure we're prepared for either gender now so I can go through with not finding out.
IF we ever had a fourth - I don't know if I would not find out again.
I love the way my friend did it with her little ones. Her neighbor is a professional cake maker and made her a cake with the inside colored either pink or blue, but the outside you couldn't tell because it was chocolate fondant with "We're having a ..." on it. When they cut it open, it showed the color. Everyone got a kick out of it.,. especially my friend and her hubby because she had the results told her neighbor so no one knew.
It was uber fun when the cake was cut, and one layer was blue and one layer was pink. It was twins, a boy and a girl.
Love the first idea but I decided that if we were going to find out, we might as well find out and make our registry based on gender. Most of our big items are pretty gender neutral since we were certain we may have another one day but as for showers, folks love gender specific items so we told ahead of time by sending a mass text and a boy themed baby shower invitation. The mass text because we could call and tell everyone equally at the same time. However, since we did the gender ultrasound with our first, I'm thinking/planning on being surprised at the hospital with our next.
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - aww that's cute. A girl I know on fb did that as a surprise too. They had a cake made and on the inside was pink :)
@OsuwarInuyasha@xanga - it was a lot of fun.. but the best one ever was when both colours were inside. No one knew.. and my friend's hubby had to catch her because he thought she was going to pass out.
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - awww nice!
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - I love that! Wait, she didn't know she was having twins? Or she just didn't know the genders of both babies?
@leannenannette@xanga - oddly, she did not know she was having twins. The boy always hid behind the girl and their heartbeats were almost totally in sync. The difference was so slight that the doc had to get another opinion on the heartbeat to see if she was actually hearing two.
These are some really cute ideas! :)
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - Wow! That really would be a shock then! But what a neat way to find that out, as well!!
@LadyGwenivere@xanga - lol, that is a great idea. I would really like to do that, but our families are out of state so I have to do something over distance....although, I could have cakes sent to them, that might be interesting!
@MrsJenBean@xanga - I don't really think that others don't get excited... I know I had plenty of people waiting to find out the sex of my daughter. I tried to tell them it was a girl, but no one would listen until I gave 'em proof! Lol.
Anyways, those are all really cute ideas. I like the one in the comments about the cake. If I ever have another child, I think I may just take that idea! :)
Cute ideas! We had a gender reveal party with a cake like another person described. We had about 30 friends here for the party plus both of our parents on Skype to watch! The u/s tech put pictures of his boy parts in an envelope, and we drove straight from the dr to my friend's house to leave the envelope. She looked and baked the cake from scratch and loved being the first to know! We had the u/s on a Thur and the party on Sat, longest 2 days of my life!!!!
I'd want to know as soon as I could. I'd never let my husband/boyfriend etc know without telling me, or know before I do.
teehee a picture of the tummy with a "hi I'm..." sticker on it and a name would be cute I reckon
