Hi Momaroos! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying your holidays!
There's a little ongoing debate at my home, and I wanted to ask what you all do.
Growing up, my mom has always taken down the decor right after Christmas. Sometimes she can't even wait until Dec 26 and has been known to take the tree down on Christmas late at night. Her logic is that she puts everything up the day after Thanksgiving and after seeing Christmas decor for a month she's dying to return her home to the way it was.
I guess she gets tired of seeing the Christmas decor after a month.
However, my inlaws are the total opposite.
They love the holiday decor! We always had fake trees growing up but my inlaws get a real tree and put up their decorations the 2nd week of December. They want to enjoy their tree as long as possible and slowly add decorations to their home throughout the month of December. My mother in law told me one year they didn't take down any of the pretty decorations until almost Valentine's Day!
So now that we have our own home and have a small collection of holiday decor I wonder what we should do.
I'm reaching out to everyone here to ask when do you take down the Christmas/holiday decor in your home?

we take everything down a few days after new year's day.
mine is coming down today or tomorrow
I know my Episcopalian friend just about dropped her drawers when I admitted this to her, but we take every thing down as soon as possible. Now, you have to take into account, I am 57, my husband is 58, and this year we gave away our fake life sized white tree, that we decorated with all blue balls, and blue lights, to our son's girlfriend and her little girl. Instead, and I almost wince to admit this, we replaced it with a two foot tree that came decorated, lights and all, and put in on a stand in the front window. A manger scene came out, and one other winter scene, and that was it. So by 5:00 p.m. yesterday, everything was put away, ready to come out next year. We also took the family out to eat, and bought everyone their own pie to take home. The kitchen was spotless, all day. So, should we keep the trees up? Probably, for some epiphanous reason.
Growing up my mom always wanted the tree to stay up until her birthday - Jan. 14. So that's what it did. We always had real trees and it's nice to enjoy them as long as possible. We tend to buy them mid-December. I'm not in a hurry to decorate right after thanksgiving (really, I'd like to wait until at least the beginning of December) and i'm in no hurry to take down my tree after Christmas. Although the excitement of new gifts joining the tree in the weeks working up to Christmas are much more festive than the empty tree skirt after Christmas and I normally get tired of just having the tree THERE by the end of the first week of January.
Growing up, we would take it down new years day. Since we have a toddler, though, and new toys to fit in the room, we'll probably take it down in the next few days. Don't know for sure. We actualy went through Christmas without having a broken ornament... Until today, lol.She used a new toy to break an ornament.
We leave our Christmas decor up until Three Kings Day, which is January 6th.
Like the first person who commented, my family also takes everything down after the new year. Like the week(end) after. But all the way to Valentine's day? That's a little dumb,IMO
We take ours down after New Years Day. But I also don't put it up till a week or two at the most before Xmas.
When I was living with roommates it stayed up for a year-and-a-half. Since it was only three feet tall and it added color to our white apartment, we thought it was fine.
Okay, we were just really lazy!
Ours usually comes down around January 1, at least that is what we did last year. I don't think we have a certain day that the tree goes up or comes down.
My parents always kept the tree up until New Year's Day, I think because they considered the rest of December to still be the part of the Christmas season. It never stayed up longer than New Years though. Maybe Jan 2 at the latest, if we were busy on the 1st. Now that I have my own place, I still do the same. I think it's a bit much to keep it up any longer than that.
today
We also take down our Christmas decor after Three Kings' Day.. :)
We take mine down sometime usually before new years, since my mom doesn't want to deal with having to after she goes back to work.
There was one year -- 1998, I think -- when I didn't take down the tree until after Christmas 1999. (Don't worry, it was an artificial tree.)
I've even taken it all down late on Christmas day before! I love the decorating and I love putting the tree up. We also take down our Christmas decor after in early January.
i usually wait till the end of Jan begining of Feb as well.
I love all the lights! <3
Usually the day after Christmas
My parents would sometimes still have their Christmas tree up and some decorations into July; me, I prefer to take it down some time in January when I'm feeling inspired.
We usually take it down after New Year's Eve and Day.
I was going to after New Years, but i was kind of dying to return my home to the way it was so we took everything down yesterday. Really, it's whenever you get the ambition to do it. Lol.
We usually don't take ours down until after the Super Bowl. Or whenever the tree dies.
I started taking mine down the day after, cause I had time and Christmas was over. I didn't want to wait until after new years cause I'd start going back to work and normal life and who has time in normal life to do extra things?!
my family decorates the weekend after thanksgiving and takes the decorations down the first or second weekend in january. i put an old string of lights up in my room this year and i'm considering leaving them up through my birthday [early february]. i would hate to take everything down Christmas night or the 26th. i think i would cry. haha. i love Christmas decorations.
The day after. Everything is gone now although we rarely get a tree. When we do its gone by the beginning of January
