My Plan of Attack for Surviving the Holidays...
Not only is there more food to eat, this season, it's also getting colder. Maybe you're not too thrilled about working out, or if you're used to working out outside but now don't want too, you have no idea what to do? I don't know. I just know that this can be a struggle for me. Knowing I should be exercising, but getting easily bored with indoor workouts. And while we're not too the point of winter, yet, it's soon coming!
I decided to come up with a plan. Instead of doing treadmill workouts all week or following some videos, I decided to make my goal about moving more. Finding things throughout the day, that you usually do, and making them more... active? Take laundry, for example. If you're like me, and have a laundry room in the basement of your house or apartment complex, the stairs can be a great workout tool. You have to do laundry anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone? That's what I've been doing the last few days. Instead of carrying my whole basket of clothes down the stairs, I take an outfit at a time (usually 3 pieces). After several times of doing that, your heart rate is up and your butt/legs are throbbing, in a good way. It may not be much, but it's a little way to get some extra movement.
And considering I do laundry 4-5 days a week? Yeah. That's good for me!
I also think exercise should just be fun and enjoyable. If I don't enjoy doing it, I have no motivation to actually do it! I love playing outside with my daughter and taking walks, and since it's going to be getting colder... I'll have to figure some other things out to do. This laundry Idea is one of them. I'm going to come up with a few more things, but don't have any now. I just wanted to share that one.

How about you Mamas? What are ways you try to combat holiday weight gain and workout despite the weather?

I generally don't tend to gain weight at holiday season. So I'm lucky. But then I work out every day. I have a universal machine in my basement along with a stationary bike. I've had these for eleven years now, which means I don't have to go to a gym to get a decent work out. And, while I won't say working out is my favorite way to spend an hour, it is only an hour. And I usually have something interesting to watch either on TV or on video (yeah I still use a VCR)
