Moms: Baby Gear Advice Please?
One baby item I haven't purchased, but have been wanting for some time now, is a sling. I love the idea of being hands free for housework, grocery shopping, etc., and also having my little man cuddle close to me.
I still have enough left over on my Babies 'R Us gift card to buy one, but I am having a hard time choosing a specific sling- especially since I have no experience using them.
I was really hoping to get some good advice from other moms!
Here are the slings I'm looking at (from babiesrus.com):
Moby Wrap Baby Carrier
(View the instructional video- in new window- here)
Jelly Bean Reversible Sling

(View instructional video- in new window- here)
....
Balboa Baby Adjustable Sling

Have any Momaroos used these slings/carriers before? Any that you can recommend?

If these three are your options then there is no question in my mind which one to pick: Moby Wrap.
First one looks most secure, and if you're actually planning to do housework while wearing the baby, that's important. Those other slings will swing out from your body if you try to bend/lean over, and get in the way. And once the baby is bigger, the wiggling starts, so you want something super secure.
I have the Moby Wrap. It is a huge piece of fabric. I mean super DUPER long piece of fabric. I haven't tried it because I am still waiting for this kid to make up his mind and enter the world... but I am kind of intimidated by it. I feel like I could wrap myself up in it and still have room to wrap the baby.
But I'll let you know how it works out. :)
I like the Moby wrap. I am really short and most of the slings available are made for taller people. I tried a few other slings but they all hurt my back and neck and were uncomfortable to use. The moby wrap was the first one that I tried that was actually comfortable to use.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to use a sling properly.
And like @happygirl7798@xanga I am very short so I think that might be the problem. I have a mei tai style carrier and love it but between those three I would go for a moby wrap (I want to try one someday)...it seems the most versatile.
I had the Jelly Bean sling, and I hated it. Every time I put my son in it, he managed to wiggle his himself into an odd position or get a limb free. Plus, I could never get it to sit right up on my shoulder without it feeling awkward.
I would go with the Moby Wrap.
I've never used a sling but I'm with everyone else. Moby looks the most secure and the most comfortable.
I thought I would LOVE the Baby Ktan which is similar to the moby. I didn't mind it. My daughter HATED it though. She loves being held but that was apparently "too" close. After 3 different carriers/slings we settled and LOVE the ErgoBaby. It puts all of the weight (almost all) on the hips instead of your back! It's amazing... I used it at the Mall of America and was just fine walking her around. She's 17 lbs at 4 months, so not small by any means. :) It also adjusts to fit both my husband and me. I know this isn't one of your choices but if you haven't looked in to it, you might consider it.
love love LOVE my Moby wrap. The only problem is that it gets super hot in the summer time. I had that one, and then got a lighter weight one online from wrapsody (not sure of the spelling). They are so versatile, even as the baby grows!
You should try a HugaMonkey. I have one and it's great! Really affordable as well. I think it's the cheapest sling out there!
I have a SleepyWrap that I used for both little ones. It's similar to a MobyWrap, I think. Loved it!
My niece fell out of one before, and yes it was being used as directed and put on as directed. I will never use them on my kids after what happened to her...
They have actually done a study showing you shouldn't use slings at all.
Here is info on just one...

But there have been several recalls... And don't say if you're not careful things happen because yes that's true but things also happen if you are careful.
I just wouldn't be comfortable with a sling... I'd always be worried about my baby somehow magically sliding out. *_*
i like the first sling its seem safe and secure
3rd sling is stylish but doesn't seem deep enough to fit a baby -- seems like the baby is about to fall out anytime soon
I used a Snugli harness.
I just saw a chick with one of these on the bus this morning. SO wish I would have had one when my baby was little. Love it so much!
@xllxo0o_0_Kara_0_o0oxllx@xanga - Those are certain types of slings that were for newborns--I heard about this too. They key is waiting to use one until the child is strong enough to hold their own head up/move freely with a little force.
Either way, I make ring-slings, so that's where my vote goes. I don't sell them though, only make them for friends.
:)
Moby wrap all the way. The child is secure enough for you to do nearly anything.
You can make your own thought for less than buying one at babies r us would be and that way you can choose the material you like.

I made mine out of 45 inch material so i just cut it into halfs instead of thirds. It makes for a much larger "pocket" but im a bigger girl and i enjoy knowing that there is plenty of material holding my child to me.
The site also has instructions for how to wrap the baby in many different ways. I always used the front wrap cross, which is what's shown in that picture you have of the moby wrap up in the post. it's the simpliest and i feel the safest hold.
@adoptionoption@xanga - http://www.wearyourbaby.com/Default.aspx?tabid=197
Here's a link that has a few videos and such of how to wrap the moby. There's a dozen different ways to wrap it and hold your baby. I used the front wrap cross for everything but you might find a different wrap that works for you. =)
@xllxo0o_0_Kara_0_o0oxllx@xanga - Actually, that is just the case in bag slings...not ring slings or wrap slings.
The babies that suffocated in Infantino bag slings were 100% user error. The plastic breaking, mostly manufacturer error. I say mostly, because if someone were to leave their sling in the car during extreme temps (hot or cold) that could compromise the plastic.
There are proper ways to baby wear, and bag slings are a HUGE no-no.
@Alle_in_Ashe@xanga - Thanks! I've watched a couple of videos, I just still was not fully prepared for how much fabric the Moby Wrap was. Also I want to practice with it but I know there is really not use until my huge belly goes away because I know it will not fit the same way post-pregnancy :)
MOBY MOBY MOBY.
i too was intimadated, but now i LOVE it, i put it on once slowly following a youtube video and now i can get it on and get baby in in less than 3 minutes. you can wear it a million different ways and even nurse in it. LOVE the moby.I bought a Moby and liked it at first, but baby just wasn't into being held so close to me all the time. Most people will tell you it is by far the best though. Just do a little practicing before actually using it. I used my puppy dog when I first practiced with it, and he liked it. LOL
Get a long, large scarf or a large piece of material and try wrapping your baby in it (or a doll, or the cat.). I'm sure you could find a video online on what the wrapping methods are and try that to see if you are comfortable with that.
