Baby Shower Idea -Advice Tree

At our baby shower my hostesses and I decided to do something called an Advice Tree and I really want to share some of the results from it.
During the shower we had a bare tree set up at the entrance and handed out small squares of decorative paper with a ribbon through them to hang them from. During a little bit of down time the guests were each asked to write their own piece of advice on their paper so that their words of wisdom could be hung on the tree (and later put in our baby scrapbook). We got some helpful- and entertaining- answers.
Here are some of my favorites:
"Turn a deaf ear to people who try to correct your own instincts. Babies don't break easy! It's okay if you make a mistake."
"Take time for yourself- so you can devote quality time to your baby."
"Time goes by fast, enjoy your little one. The housework can wait."
"Lots of love and ear plugs."
"Remember they will grow up- and this too will pass."
"Trust your instincts- Don't panic- Pray- Keep your cool- Life is sweet."
Did you incorporate an advice or wish element into your baby shower? What good advice did you receive?

That's awesome! One of the best pieces of advice I received is similar to "This too shall pass." My old boss told me to just keep in mind that as soon as I feel like I can't take one more minute of whatever stage my kids are in, they will graduate into a new stage. Of course, that stage will probably have its own problems, but at least you've moved past the last stage. I've found that to be so true! Just when I thought breastfeeding was SO totally overwhelming and took up my time 24/7, Hannah started spacing out her feedings and it became manageable. Or we started solids and she didn't need to nurse as much. And more recently, just when I thought I couldn't handle her waking up one more time at night (because I just found out I was pregnant with #2 and was exhausted), she cut out her morning nap and started sleeping through the night again. It just all works out exactly when you need it to! But it's the most helpful to remember with a newborn, who will need to eat every 1-4 hours and go through 12 diapers a day and sleep in your arms all day long but cry all night long. It just feels so impossible, but it changes so quickly! I promise!
We had something similar at my shower. I have all of those cards on them, two years later, and I still read them and smile.
My favorite? "Read to your son every day of his life until he can read to you. And then make him."
:)

@mevlink@xanga - Thanks for this comment! I know that is exactly what my grandma (who had five boys) meant. I also know it may be one of the most valuable pieces of advice and I will probably be thinking of it often for a while :). Definitely comforting even if it means my baby boy growing up a little :).
@bloggermama@xanga - I like that one! Reading is going to be a very big thing in our house.
@SEO London - Thank you!
I did a similar thing at my sister's shower where i made cards for guests to write thoughts/advise and then used them with the photos to make a scrapbook for her. Some of the guests wrotes notes to my niece reminding her to read these comments when she is a teenager and remember how much her parents & family loved her. It was very sweet.
