Being There For Your Kids
Me and my fiance have been discussing kids lately. One of the main things we talked about is taking interest in what our future kids do.
I think it is important to be involved in my kids' lives because believe it or not, being there for them is extremely vital in their maturity process. I mean, you can help them make healthy choices about sex, school, drugs, or things of that nature. Being there also doesn't have to mean scolding them all the time. We can just listen to them and encourage them whenever they need our support.
Having said that, those tools I mentioned in my last sentence will help your kids to succeed later in life and will also show them how to lead a fruitful and happy life. I'm so glad I had a mother who was so encouraging and supportive of all the things I have done or am going to do.
Some parents may not realize this but you guys are a big influence on how your kids think and what they do. Just remember that it's important to have a great relationship with your kids when they're young because it will definitely impact how your relationship with them will be when they become adults.
For me, the experiences I want to share with my future children are what it was like to be in the military and how it was growing up without a father can be a blessing and a curse. On top of that, I just want to show them how much I truly love them and want what is best for them.
What experiences would you like to share with your kids someday? What kind of relationship would you like to have with your children?

My kids made me want to run for the hills when they hit the teen years
. I think both parents should share the same goals for ther kids. Now that 4 are adults 33,32,31,23, they love ma to death! If i had it all to do again i would have a smaller family! As adults somedays i just want to be left alone! They don't stop needing your advice because their grown! But i do love all of them equally!!
@blendrax08@xanga - LOL I"m 22, and a mother now myself. I live 8 hours from my mom. There have been weeks where she has had to ask me to quit calling.
@RainDropPixie@xanga - that's so funny, we love you but we just want to come up for air. LOL

I would love to share with my (future) kids the experiences I went through growing up myself and my father's old sailor stories which I grew up with. I'd like a relationship where I'm there for the kids just as my mother was always there for me. I wouldn't worry all too much about how they should grow up to be, it seems that kids naturally tend to exhibit their parents' traits when they are older; My parents were workaholics at their jobs (Papa busy at his shipping career and Mamasha busy with being a mother and housekeeper) whereas I was always out playing or doing everything that is unrelated to school work (although I always made sure I brought home grades that made the top percentiles of my class), but look at me now... I'm constantly planning short-term and long-term goals, how to get my game on when I have a career after I graduate and how to make the most of everything to get up the corporate ladder as quick as I can!
