I’m Losing It…
Post from Glamorous Insanity
….Again.
I cannot even begin to count how many diets I have tried. Low carb, no carb, Master Cleanse, and even fasting.
With any diet, I see the same result…FRUSTRATION.
Anyone who knows me knows I can EAT! I am not the kind of girl that will shy away from food and order the salad. In fact, I remember being on a date and ordering a burger, fries, soda, AND a side of chicken wings…No shame in my game.
And those same people who know me also know I don’t like to exercise. I hate to sweat, and I run on only 3 occasions:
A.) Someone is chasing me.
B.) The phone is ringing.
C.) There is a 50% off sale at Victoria’s Secret.
With my love for food, and my laziness in the workout department, I am preventing myself from being the confident gal I used to be. I used to look good, and feel good too. These days, I seem to get the same statement from people trying to make me feel better:
“You look good for having 2 kids.”
Really? Is that a compliment or an insult?
You don’t tell Chelsea Handler she’s funny for being a Jew. She’s just funny. And I don’t want to look good for having kids. I just want to look good. Even more-so, I want to feel good again.
What are your tricks to lose weight? Do you stick to a Weight Loss Plan/Diet?

I'm still pretty young and have a crazy high metabolism, so losing weight has never been an issue for me. (Post-baby weight comes off within 4 months with breastfeeding, no matter what I eat.) However, I do need to exercise more just to stay healthy and fit. That's a hard committment to make with two littles running around.
I used to work retail and once I overheard another sales associate tell a woman trying on clothes, "you look great for a mom!"
Everyone in the dressing room was like, "that is not a compliment, no woman wants to hear that." The mom also felt insulted. She looked great period and you could definitely tell she worked out regularly. She was way more fit than any of the teenage sales associates. hehe
I've lost 20 lbs. in the last 8 months and haven't been to the gym once. I'm not proud that I haven't been to the gym - I probably need to in order to build muscle - but it just hasn't worked out for me. I do, however, try to walk regularly. As for losing the weight, I drastically changed my lifestyle. I don't think you (anyone) will lose weight permanently until you get serious about lifestyle and eating habits. I cut out cheese and sugar - right there and you would lose a lot of weight because those ingredients are going to come wrapped in unhealthy fattening foods. Otherwise, I eat lean meats, fruits & veggies, whole grains (occasional white bread, but only as a treat, not every day), nuts, beans, tofu, fish, etc. I eat healthy fats like nuts, peanut butter (no sugar added), and olive oil. Read labels: avoid high-fructose corn syrup, sugar, hydrogenated oils. If you focus on a few changes like avoiding those ingredients or avoiding cheese & sugar, it will have a ripple effect because your choices will be narrowed down to healthier and lower-fat items...
As Michael Pollan says: Eat real food. Mostly plants. Not too much. (or something like that ;)
those fad diets never work because they're not sustainable. i was able to lose weight in the past year through cooking at home with veggies & chicken, limiting eating out at restaurants (they pile on the oil & salt!), and exercising 2-3 times at the gym every week. i used to hate exercising too, but it makes u feel really good afterwards (physically and mentally), and u'll notice the weight loss results a lot faster. start off slow, cut out unhealthy foods (cheese & other processed food especially), try walking more outside and you'll be on your way to losing weight in no time =)
I'm stubborn and I like what I like, so I refuse to cut out anything all together. Instead I limit my portion sizes. I use the smaller (salad?) plates from our set and only get one serving. Instead of using soup bowls for ice cream or desserts, I use the "mugs" (they're more like fat tea cups; the sides are low...they also sell small ice cream dishes in some stores). I squeeze in small work outs right before I'm going to shower anyway, if it all possible...I could deal with the sweat, but the post-shower hair-drying is a #$%&! It works for me. I can still eat what I want and when I'm out without the kids, people never suspect I'm a mom!
I just cut my portions down. Lost 25 pounds in about 6 months. But now I'm pregnant again so...19 of it is back but I already know that at least 10 of it will leave right after giving birth. And I only have 10 weeks left to go..so hey. I can deal. Plus I'm gonna breast feed. Great weight loss! It'll help me lose the extra 15 or so I needed to lose before I got pregnant.
i've never had a baby so this isn't a baby-weight tip but adding alot of fiber and water will help balance out any junk you might have in your diet and make you feel less groggy. less groggy might make you feel like exercising. nothing is worse than pulling on a sportsbra when you feel bloated.
Don't cut anything out of your diet, just LIMIT it. Yesterday I had 1 cup of Special K cereal for breakfast, Noodles and Grilled Chicken for lunch, and Chicken alfredo with Meatballs. The trick is to look at the labels. The noodles I ate were over 200 calories for every 1/4 cup. That's alot. I had 1 cup of noodles and the sauce plus 4 meatballs. I'm not saying to count every calorie that you consume, but you need to be aware of portion sizes. I don't cut anything out of my diet, and I just had my baby five months ago and have lost all of it (45 lbs) plus another 5 pounds. If you don't like hard core exercise, walk. ALOT. Not only does it help you lose weight, but it clears your mind and helps with stress!
I think the best way to get in and stay in shape is so be constantly active. I don't mean have a set work-out routine or diet, but keep yourself moving as much as you can in your daily life--walk places, carry things, etc. It's less stressful than wondering about how many reps you should do or if the cute trainer over there is laughing at your belly or whatever, it comes easier and you feel better all around. :)
I, too, LOOOOOVE to eat. But I'm losing weight! My tips:
1. Dr Phil's book "The Ultimate Weight Solution: Seven Keys to Weight Loss Freedom." Seriously. I never thought it would work for me, but it does! I started on January 1st, and I've lost almost 10 lbs already! (That's a bit too fast, really, but I'm sure it'll slow down when my body adjusts to my new routine).
2. Find a type of exercise you LOVE (for me it's dancing, and walking with my friend) and plan it as part of your weekly schedule.
3. Be creative in the food department - you can still have a lot of yummy food! (I just had some salmon for lunch - fatty, but good-for-you fats, plus salad, some gorgeous bread, and low-fat ricotta cheese. Yum!) With the help of Dr Phil's book, find out which ingredients are good for you, and start experimenting. I've actually been cooking a lot more lately, and enjoying it, too! Lots of soups (made from left-over veggies, canned tomatoes and lots of fresh herbs) to keep the cold away...
4. Don't starve yourself, but rather, try to find out how MUCH you can eat while still losing weight. The idea here is to "eat clean", that is, no weird additives, no refined sugars and flours, and limited fats (only "good fats" if possible). I am actually eating more than what is on Dr Phil's plan, and I'm still losing a lot of weight. I eat three satisfying meals a day, plus three snacks.
5. Don't let yourself get too hungry, too emotional, or too tired. All three can lead to binging. So eat every 2-3 hours. I know people say to stop eating about 3-4 hours before you go to sleep, but I can really only manage about 2 hours before I go to bed. Still losing weight, though!
The best way for me is to try to ENJOY eating well, and finding exercise I enjoy doing, or at the very least an exercise buddy I enjoy spending time with. If you see it as punishment, you're not going to last...
Good luck! Let us know how you're doing!
agree with most other comments.
fad diets never work.
I hate to sweat too, so I swim! Swimming will change your life. And I think you'll enjoy the fact that you can eat like crazy and at the same time get toned.
