Easy Cereal Jewelry For Kids
It is so difficult sometimes to find crafts that toddlers can actually participate in. With my little friends I am always worrying about their safety when doing a craft as they love to put everything into their mouths! It is also difficult to find a project easy enough to complete before a toddler loses focus! But that doesn’t mean they are too young to do a craft, you just need to find ones that are safe, easy and fun to do!
After racking my brain the other day for a craft I could do with a 21-month-old and a 3-year-old I finally came up with an idea! Edible necklaces and bracelets! Not only was this craft safe, easy, and fun it was also inexpensive!
All you need:
- Froot Loops (or you can buy the store brand like I did-Tootie Fruities rule!)
- String/Thin Ribbon
- Kids
I got the kids settled at the kitchen table and broke out the bags of Tootie Fruities for our special project! Then I filled two bowls (one for each child) with Tootie Fruities and gave them each a piece of string. Next I demonstrated how to string the Tootie Fruities in order to make a necklace or bracelet (depends on how long they can stay focused).
The younger child had a little bit of trouble stringing the Tootie Fruities but had a blast eating them! Below is a shot of a finished bracelet.
By the end of the project we were all laughing, our bellies full and our necks and wrists covered with beautiful, edible jewelry! I hope you and your children have as much fun as we did!
Do your toddlers enjoy doing crafts?

Great craft! I think I would have used a cereal without such a high sugar content, such as Cheerios.
I started doing that with my oldest daughter before she turned two. She had fun even though I had to help her
It's a great craft for kids. Colorful, safe, and edible.
If the end of the string starts to fray, just wrap a little piece of tape around it, like the end of a shoelace, and it's much easier. This is a great craft for any stale, round cereal. More ambitious kiddos might want to make a garland to hang on a bush outside for the birds.
I had thought about using this as a craft with my son. He has a wheat allergy, and I've found an organic oat cereal that is like Froot Loops. I can see the sugar content in it being a problem if they eat it all the time or have issues with artificial colors, but for a treat, I'll let him be crazy for a bit!
We did this craft today... my son is 2 and half and LOVED it. Too cute!! We even got the stretchy string. I am wearing one and we made one for grammy. Super fun, super cheap!!
fun fun fun
You guys are too smart and far ahead of this gramma. To think I thought I was smart last week because I allowed my 15 month old grandson to color the vacuum cleaner. I know I know, it sounds overtly weird. But he is fascinated by machines, and spends at least 30 minutes a day walking around it, poking and prodding it, taking the attachments off, before moving to the next bit of machinery. Not to be suggested unless you are right there, as there is a long cord involved. I'm thinking maybe cheerios and string or floss might work for an activity.
