  • Decorations for the Nursery Too Expensive? Make Your Own!

One of my friends recently had beautiful twin baby girls, Emilia and Mackenzie.  As she was shopping around for items to decorate her nursery with she wandered into a Pottery Barn and found a beautiful butterfly mobile.

The mobile was over $80 dollars though and she just couldn’t bring herself to spend that kind of money on a decoration when she could make it herself!

At this point my friend was already on maternity leave from her job as a graphic designer and therefore had some time on her hands.  Thank goodness because for the next few days she spent hours cutting out hundreds of little white paper butterflies she had designed herself!

My friend then combed the beach across the street from her house for two pieces of driftwood that she planned to nail together in a crisscross to hang the butterflies from.  Next she spent again more hours hand threading each butterfly and attaching them to the pieces of driftwood.

When the breeze comes through the windows in the nursery the butterflies come alive, they lightly flit and float through the air like magic.  They look so beautiful flying above the girl’s cribs.  My friend did an amazing job making this mobile and I just had to share it with everyone!

Do you have any handmade decorations in your baby’s nursery?
