  • What Are Babies Thinking?

I found an envelope in my mom's desk with a whole butt-load of little-kid pictures of me!

    A duck?!

    Rawr!

Look at all that fat...that I still have

    Already the recluse...

    I'm the tall yellow one.

    Hahahaha

Whenever I find baby pictures, I just think to myself "I wonder what I was thinking about when that photo was taken..."
Which leads me to my next point...

Do babies think?  I mean, do they have any semi-intelligent thoughts?  What if babies were actually super smart, but no one knew because babies don't know how to talk...
I also wonder HOW they think.  I don't know about you, but my language of thought is in English, meaning that all the little conversations and ponderings going on inside of my head take the form of English.

But babies don't do languages.  :_(

I'm probably thinking too much about this right now, but it's confusing me :D

Has anyone else ever wondered about babies and what they think about?

I've wondered this on numerous occasions.

I have been curious about this as well.  Adorable photos by the way, I love finding old photos of friends, family, and even myself (though I was not as cute as you when I was a little one!)

    My gosh you were adorable!!!
My friend told me that she thinks they think in pictures. As in: A hungry baby will visualize a breast or bottle as they see it when they're eating (which is why a ton of babies make sucking motions when they're hungry but not actively eating). My son would suck the air and pat his arm in the air as though he was patting my breast like he did when he was nursing (this was about at a week or two old, and continued whenever he got hungry until about 3 months of age). A tired baby may just think about snuggling up to Mom or Dad's chest, the inside of their crib, etc...

I think they also think in sounds and 'feelings'. They may remember the tune or sound of Mommy's singing. They remember what feeling 'full' feels like. They know the feeling of a wet diaper, etc.

This is, of course, pure speculation. I'm 23 years beyond infancy, lol... I have a good memory, but I'm not THAT good.

Considering that humans have more brain cells at birth and gradually lose them until death, I'd say babies probably are little geniuses. But they don't know how to express that in thought or speech, so it's kind of wasted.  BUT I have heard that if you start teaching babies different languages at an early age (i.e. talk to them in different languages) they will pick it up SO much easier than older children because of all those brain cells.

lolz!! Cute pics! =) Haha, I ask myself that question all the time whenever I see a baby, especially while babysitting or playing with my little cousins. Sometimes they do the cutest thing ever or just cry their head off, which always lead me to questioning what triggers them to be in that mood, ect...
