  • Books I'm Reading -Please Share Your Latest Reads Too!

Guest post from A Day In Rhonda's Life

This one is my current read. I'm quite enjoying it, and am about 1/2 through.

I thought this would be a hoot, being a hard core soccer mom and all. And you know, now that I think about it, I don't think soccer was even mentioned!! It was a desperate housewives sort of book. Enjoyable, light, dorky, and pretty funny in some spots. I would like to read this author's book, the journal of somethingorother moments. I'll know it when I see it!

I got a few stories in and realized that this is NOT the book for me. It was just dumb.

Sad. Incredibly vulgar. I have no interest in seeing the movie, but hey, knock yourselves out.

This one was definitely better than Cross Bones below. A pretty OK read.

Not horrible. Just not for me.

So tune in again in a couple of weeks for another edition of "What I'm Reading". I have a bag of books from the library awaiting my attention. And you know, that sad thing about all this reading is that while my brain is soaking it all up, so is my butt! Holy COW!! Hurry and get here Wii Fit! I don't know if my wardrobe can wait until Christmas!

So what books are you reading or have recently read?

I really don't read much fiction.  It's very rare.  I do have "Precious" on my list of books to read, though.

    Here's what I've got going:
"Superfreakonomics" - D. Levitt and Stephen Dubner
"Talking to Idiots" - Glenn Beck
"What the Dog Saw" - Malcolm Gladwell
"Atlas Shrugged" - Ayn Rand (again, read it before)

I loved The Time Traveler's Wife! I had passed it by so many times when at the store but my boyfriend's roomie suggested I read it and I am so glad he did!

Time Traveler's Wife is awesome!  My daughter read it and then lent me the book.  Great read.

Right now, I'm not reading anything really.  I did read The Christmas Hope recently.

    Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

    True Believer - Nicholas Sparks
    just finished ;D

  • milfncookies@xanga

I don't read many novels (I should change that, haha). One of the more generally interesting books I read recently was "The Five Love Languages," heavy but enrapturing stuff!

I love Nicholas Sparks, I enjoyed the Twilight saga, and I've been into some Christian titles recently.  However, my current book is "The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear", and it is fantastic.  If you're into fantasy, like "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" or "Harry Potter", or if you just want something goofy and not too thought-provoking, I'd recommend it.  It's 900 pages, but Walter Moer illustrates it, too, like Shel Silverstein does for your kiddos, so it's well worth it.

I used to read alot while my husband was deployed. My friend let me borrow "The Time Travler's Wife". when I started reading that book, I wasn't interested at all but as I kept reading it, it was a good book! thas why people always say "don't judge a book by it's cover" I actually really enjoyed the book and they have a movie for it! I want to go see it. I hope you like the book how I liked it cause it's really that good!

ok.. i did not like Time Traveler's Wife.. but thats just me.
I just finished 10 of Terri Blackstock's latest books.. yay! I am working on her Season's series but am missing book 2 until it comes in from Amazon.ca (woo hoo for free shipping). So I read "Have a New Kid By Friday" by Dr Kevin Leman.. Great book for parents. And am now knee deep in the latest edition of "The Birth Order Book" (also Dr Leman).

The most recent book I finished was....ugh, I can't remember the name but it was a memoir, really good too.  Right now I am reading a bevy of religious books:  "The Women of Opus Dei", "Story of a Soul, the Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux" and a book about Saint Gianna Beretta Molla.

I'm about 1/4 into "Madness" by Marya Hornbacher. It's a memoir about her struggles with bipolar disorder. I've read her other two books, "Wasted" and "The Center of Winter" and I've been waiting to buy this one for a while...she's such a gifted writer! Next on my list is "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" (can't wait!), "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood (my cousin recommended it), finally finishing "One Flew Over The Cucoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey....and others. Any other recommendations? =) I have all of winter break!

These all look like great books... I am going to have to check a few of them out from the library.  Currently I am reading "bipolar bare" by Carlton Davis.  It is in inspiring memoir about living with
bipolar disorder-  it is one that I am having a difficult time putting down.  It really should be made into a major motion picture.

I loved the "Time Travelers Wife".  I have yet to see the movie but hope to someday.  I wanted a different ending but you can't have everything.  Currently, I'm reading a nonfiction book called "Blessed with Bipolar:36 God-Given Gifts of Manic-Depression" by Jarzynka.  It's a memoir about an his journey through life with this disorder.  The book is very positive and it seems to have been a very spiritual experience for him.  Interesting to see another bipolar book mentioned above...I'll have to check it out.

Right now I'm working on  Intensity by Dean Koontz and I just finished The Husband by Dean Koontz. A few weeks ago I read Duma Key by Stephen King and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
Intensity is more suspenseful than scary in my opinion, but it's a very good read so far. I seem to just devour all his books. The Husband was amazing, I read it in two sittings. Duma Key was pretty scary, but I enjoyed it very much. Although I've read the Secret before I really like re-reading it here and there. It will just brighten you up. Even if you're not down, this book does a good job in making you feel like you're on top of the world. It's a fairly quick read, and even just a few chapters would do the trick.
If you're into fantasy you should look up The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings. That's my boyfriend's favorite author. I'm not normally into old-timey talking cats and what have you, but it was fabulous. Your imagination will feel refreshed by it!
What do you think of Stephen King? Dean Kootnz? They are my favorite authors.
