Dad Knows, Mom Doesn't: Keeping the Sex of Your Baby Secret
Guest post by Baby Bump Blog
Gisele Bundchen has reportedly decided to keep the sex of her baby a delivery surprise...but hubby Tom Brady already knows! According to the daddy-to-be, "I wanted to find out and she didn't so she said 'Go ahead.' It will be a surprise for her." Let's just hope Tom has a good poker face!
MyRegistry.com wants to know: Would you let your partner find out the baby's sex if you wanted a delivery surprise? Did you wait to find out the sex of the baby until you delivered or find out asap?

When I get pregnant, I'll want to know. I'm really into being prepared and stuff.
For some reason, older people..like ones that had children before all these advanced ultrasounds are all "what happened to being surprised! you shouldn't find out!' Oh, please. Whats the difference if I find out now or later? Oh, I know, I can prepare for it and buy more than just greens and yellows.
I gotta know what to get!! =D
for our first my husband and I both wanted to know....next time around I think we might find out but not tell anyone else and keep them surprised. I don't know....I want to do something a little different next time.
i agree with the comment above... although keeping it a secret would be fun, i will want to know ASAP so i can plan and buy stuff, pick out a name for sure, etc.
I normally wouldnt care if my partner new, but I know myself.
If I wanted to keep it a secret and my partner knew, I'd force him to tell me and then hate him for doing so. lolSo I would probably beg him not to find out for his own protection. lolboth my parents didn't know for either my brother or me. they were surprised! i think that's kinda cool.. but i'm not sure what I will do yet. i am not sure if i will even have children.
I found out the sex of my first 4 during ultrasounds. With my 5th (and quite possibly last) I decided to go the surprise route. It really did make the delivery more special in an anticipatory sort of way. It was so nice to deliver that baby, hold the baby in my arms.. for the first few minutes, I didn't even look.. when my kids came in (it was a homebirth), they all asked "What is it?" So then I picked the baby up- It's a boy! It was just a cool moment, for ME to find out/announce the sex, not some ultrasound tech or doctor.
But I do understand wanting to plan and all that jazz ;)
I didn't find out. It was fun guessing until he was born!
i wanted to find out and almost didn't by then i was like ok i wanna be surprised i went into the dr office to get test results and the dr said the male ....has no genetic problems...i forgot exactly what she said but i know it was the genetic test results
My parents didn't bother to find out about me, and they were too lazy to pick two names out, so they just chose one androgynous name. =P

To get an ultrasound is a healthy benefit, just in case your baby is in trouble. There's less surprise, but to know that your child is okay is better.
I don't see anything wrong with it and sometimes it goes the other way around, where the woman wants to know and the man doesn't. :p
Whether I would want my SO to know the sex of the baby (if I didn't want to know), would depend on how good they are at keeping their mouth shut about things. If they are the type of person that can't keep a secret at all, then its probably not the best idea and I would be against it. :p
@BlehhItsTu@xanga - I think if you tell the doctor that you don't want to know the sex, they will tell you to look away from the monitor or have it set up in a way so that you can't really see the monitor. So, you can still get an ultrasound even if you don't want to know the sex of your baby. :) Which is good, because you're right, the purpose of an ultrasound isn't just to check the sex of the child, its one of the ways that the doctor checks to make sure your baby is healthy, which is why its important. :)
