  • Family Matters -I Miss My Family...

You know something? I miss my family.

We moved to Hong Kong when I was 3 because of my daddy's job. He's a maths professor and my mother's an assistant. They worked from morning until night (as they still do) so I didn't see much of them. We had a domestic helper, Florie, who still lives with my family back in Hong Kong. She brought up me and my brother while my parents were at work. She's like a mother to me. She's basically a part of the family and we love her very much.

Anyways, I barely ever saw my parents when I was living in Hong Kong, and I took it for granted...so much. Now that I've left Hong Kong and started university in Barcelona, not a day goes by that I don't think about them and miss them.

I email them both almost every day if I can and I talk to mum over the phone and tell her everything and stuff. My mother has turned into my best friend. I don't really talk to Florie much because I wouldn't know what to say to her but I do think about her a lot and I miss her and hope she's okay. She's a lovely person.

I never thought I'd say this but I really miss my family and can't wait to see them again. I know it's only my first semester of my first year of university. I can't believe it, but it's the truth.

Did you ever live far away from your immediate family for an extended time? How did you deal with the long distance and missing your family?
