  • I'm 8 Months Pregnant and Only This Big

8 months pregnant and I'm only his big:

I know I'm a tiny person; matter of fact, "tiny" runs through all the women in my family. We're french, German, and Swedish and apparently small genes are inherited, no exceptions. It's not a bad thing, but I'm still worried whether or not my baby is going to be underweight. The only weight I've gained is from her (6 lbs.). Not to mention that I'm not even close to being the size in diameter I'm supposed to be (yet).

I do watch what I eat and I've always kept a regular alkaline-revolved diet, and that could be part of the reason why I'm so small in pregnancy. I have weekly check ups with my health and the baby's health, how my placenta is holding up and if it's delivering the right amount of nutrients/protein. As far as the doctor's "OK" and ultra sounds go, she's very healthy and the weight she's supposed to be for her size.

My fiance says that I'm overreacting about it- "You're a small person anyway and it runs through your family. It's okay. Besides, you don't even look like you're old enough to be 18 to the opposite sex *wink*."

Har har. I must admit though that I don't look over 17. ID checks are always regular for me. Overreacting or not, I'm still going to be paranoid. Not to the point where it causes stress but, ya know, the border-line kind of paranoid.

Wow I think you barely look 20 weeks!  But if she is growing just fine and everything is ok, there really shouldn't be a need to worry.

  • BoStOnIaNMoMmY@xanga

omg u have such a cute belly, i love it. if your doctor see's that the baby is growing ok then your good to go, u should be extremely greatful about that cuz alot of people dont get as lucky as this ugh niether did I.

  • ShamrockLover@xanga

What is an alkaline-revolved diet?  I've never heard of that.....i might just have to google it.  I say if your doctor is well aware of your diet and health and is okay with how big and healthy the baby is, i don't think you should stress.  I just hope that you're honest with your provider, but ultrasounds don't lie.  If there was an issue with the baby or placenta, i'm sure someone would say something.

Don't stress....this is amazing and exciting time so enjoy it!

You are way so lucky!  Now if your "down there" is hyper-elastic and you don't tear, you will have it all!! (I delivered #1 and #3 myself. so I have a bit of a clue)

  • KimisBarbie@xanga

is she laying towards your back?
a lot of times that makes the stomach look smaller.
    if not, damn. that's tiny.

  • PoetMcChick@xanga

I didn't show hardly at all till the last month. I only gained 10 pounds with her (and she weighed 9 pounds 14 ounces...) but that was because she made me SOOO sick the whole time I could barely ever keep anything down. I ended up dropping 40 pounds in a week and a half after my c-section cuz of how much I had really lost.

If the dr says you're okay, then you're okay.

  • Fairywife@xanga

Don't worry about it. People didn't even know I was pregnant til I was about 8 months. And people who DID notice only thought I was like 5 to 6 months.  I haven't gained any weight at all this pregnancy and I'm 17 weeks. (OK I did gain some, but it's not from the baby and it'll be gone next appointment)

  • black_lie@xanga

If the doctor says you are fine, don't worry about it! Good luck!

Are you short or tall?  I have a taller, thin friend her looked like that almost up until she delivered.  I guess the baby had more room to hide because of her longer torso.  Me on the other hand, I'm petite and short and though I gained about 30 lbs the baby had no other place to go than out at the end.  As long as the doc says babies fine I would trust her judgement.  Make sure you're taking enough calories and vitamines though to meet the needs of yourself and the baby.  The baby gets first dibs on the nutrients you take in and mom is second.

I've never seen a belly so small as yours but that baby is in their somewhere!  I would try not to worry.

I'm a bigger girl, but I still managed to lose 10 pounds during my pregnancy and I barely showed and my baby was totally healthy and normal.  If the doctor seems ok with it, then I'm sure things are fine.  But I understand your worry, that's your baby and you worry, it'll be ok!

  • FLUFFYMOM4@xanga

dont stress over it. i was tiny also and nobody even knew i was pregnant. my neighbors almost fell over when they asked me who's baby i was holding and they were just talking to me 10 days prior to me having him. i only gained about 16 pounds total and he was very healthy. just relax =)

  • HisHolyPresence@xanga

Month #8 is when I gained ALL my weight!  I had only gained about 10 pounds and then BAM! month #8 happened and, in total, I gained 63 pounds (with #1).  Really - it's better to smaller than bigger - easier on you!  Baby sounds like he/she is growning at the right rate  -  already 6 pounds - I would predicts an [almost] 8 pounder!

  • XxFireXboltxX@xanga

If it helps --- I have a friend who is really tiny and at 40 weeks was barely bigger than you. She gave birth to a healthy 6lb 2oz baby boy! :)

  • feelslikejuly@xanga

I hope when I have children that I don't gain a lot of weight! btw, your belly is cute!

  • viarah@xanga

I'm an average sized person and i was smaller than that when I delivered. . I didn't gain weight I lost up until week 30 then i gained about 6lbs but still came out in the negative the entire time, at 5 months people who didn't know I was pregnant were commenting on my weight loss.  Dr said everything w/ me was healthy he would have liked more weight gain but I tried!! The only reason baby was under weight was she was 6 weeks early but she was good size for 34 weeks gestataion. .

  • causewehavealovesostrong@xanga

Well, I've heard that if you have really good stomach muscles, then you won't get as big.  Or something along those lines.  I wouldn't take my word for it because I'm not sure how true that is.  I would't worry about it since the doctor said that your baby was ok  and healthy :)

  • mhdie@xanga

"french, German, and Swedish" you have got some good genes (im Sweedish, Polish, and Czech) whats on the fathers side?

  • randadawn

I was/am overweight when I got pregnant and after the pregnancy I was 30lbs lighter then pre-pregnancy. My belly was smaller then most women that were 6 months along when I was 2 weeks overdo...Oh and my boy came out weighing 9lbs 6oz. So yeah nothing to worry about. Remember EVERYONE is different!!

  • gweirdo@xanga

never thought pregnant could look so sexy... im sure its nothing to worry bout... as long as ur doctors are taking good care of you... you have nothing to worry bout

  • NotUeberMommy

If your dr is monitoring the size of the baby, you have nothing to worry about. If you are worried, you can always ask for an extra ultrasound.

I knew one lady who was pretty tall, but had almost no belly until she was almost 8 months along. Her babies were both about 8 lbs though! For some women, the babies sort of grow in, not out. Also, if you have strong abs, that might be another reason why your belly isn't protruding as much as people now seem to think is "normal."

As long as your baby is healthy, I think you should be grateful - from personal experience I can tell you that it's no fun having a 10lbs, 7oz baby (my first!) and carrying a huge amount of amniotic fluid... I had a hard time walking from week 25!! Plus, it's hard getting back into shape!

Good luck, and please enjoy these last weeks of the pregnancy..

  • hamu_mato@xanga

u look like u 've got it 4 months only....

  • tracezilla@lovelyish

Actually, a lot of women don't get all that very big during their first pregnancy. So, if this is your first, it isn't all that surprising. :)

  • Wifeandmotherto3boys@xanga

I would not worry about it  Nicole Kidman was preg and did not even look preg at all.  Have you ever watched I didn't know I was pregnant.  those people deliver and never gained weight.  so I would not worry about it.  My sisters First pregnancy she could of hid the whole time she did not even look pregnant at all.  even though the baby was born 4 lbs 14oz. the doctor was not worried about it.  If the doctors not worried then I would not be either.  at least you won't have any strech marks.  lol

  • krazeegurl787@xanga

I was tiny until I was 8 months! Then I gained almost all my weight (40 lbs) during my last month and a half. And I was 2 weeks late! I've lost 32 lbs already without exercise because I had a c-section. But my daughter was 6 lbs 9 oz and healthy as ever! You really shouldn't worry hun! I worried and had a lot of ultrasounds because I was so small too and they worried about the baby, but everytime she was doing wonderful. I also measured small on my fundal height, but it could be because of the way your baby is sitting also! Your doctor says your baby is healthy and doing good so please don't worry and put that extra stress on yourself. Enjoy these last few weeks. Believe it or not, you will miss it! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and delivery!!!
