Where Does He Get This Stuff?

Last week, we were playing Rhyme Time so as we read Rhyming Dust Bunnies, Mike and I were making up other rhymes for the words: bed, head, dread, sped, led. Cavanaugh looked at us and said, “I don’t like any of your ideas–about rhyming.”

A few days later, he wanted to watch a video. I suggested we could play with puppets, go outside, or paint. Again, the kid looks at me and says, “I don’t like any of your ideas.”

Where does he come up with this stuff? I can’t recall a time that either Mike or I–or anyone else Cavanaugh has ever heard speak–has said, “I don’t like any of your ideas.” So, lately, when he busts out with something the origin of which is a total mystery to me, I ask, “Where did you learn to say that?”

And you know what he says? “At school.” He doesn’t even go to school.

All right, your turn. What’s the funniest thing you’ve heard lately, either from your child or from someone else?
