  • Now I'm Excited To Go To This Baby Shower!!

    Now I am excited!!!

What am I excited about??? Well, on Sunday I am going to a wedding reception/Baby shower. My half-sister Jessamy is getting married by a JP this week and she is due to have her third child soon(First with this guy...her first two children she had with a guy who was very abusive...never married him).

I was not really excited to go to this because I knew I had no money to buy her anything and had no clue what I was going to give her.

I KNOW NOW!!!!! (And I will tell you because Jessamy doesn't read my blog)

This morning I went and got the baby stuff to go through. The Stuff that we still have from when C (now 5) was a baby. It turns out I have a really nice baby car seat and also a nice baby bath thing. So I scrubbed them up really nice and I called my Stepmother and asked her if Jess has a car seat for the baby. She doesn't. So I told my stepmother what I was planning on giving Jess and my stepmother voiced her approval. That made me so happy. I really wanted to go to the thing but I didn't want to go empty handed and I didn't want people to know we are so poor that I couldn't buy anything.

So now we can go and we are giving her stuff she needs.

Here are pictures of what we are giving her......

Have you ever done stuff like this and recycled stuff from  your children to give to others?
    What do you think?

I think you need to make sure the carseat still meets safety standards before giving it to your sister. They do expire after a while and there are always safety recalls and such. I would confirm that it's still considered safe, especially since it's been at least four years since it held a baby last.

@Kait82521@xanga - I did check that. It has not been recalled and is still considered safe until it's expiration date in 2 years (Which until Someone said something to me I had not realized they have expiration dates.) So it's good to go, but thank you for the advice :)

We have definitely recycled our stuff!  My cousin tok my first's car seat a year after my daughter was done using it (still met the standards of course!), we gave away clothes that we weren't going to use anymore to various people and we continue to do so.  People have given us sooo much stuff also!  So it's non stop recycling!  I love it!

I think it is a great idea!  Tough times make this kind of gifting a great thing, its stuff she needs, it is using stuff to its fullest, and honestly, we all have so much, reusing items helps keep our footprint on earth smaller!
We pass clothing down in our family, and one of the best gifts I gave was a dress my grandmother made for my younger sister... my daughter wore it and when my sis had her daughter I washed it, ironed it and boxed it up, she cried when she opened it!

One of my friends gave me all of her baby's hand-me-downs, but was embarrassed to do it at my shower.  So she came over the day before and gave me all the clothes.  My LO is in 6-9 mo clothes now and the hand-me-downs are the ONLY clothes in that size anyone thought to give me.  I couldn't be more grateful.  She also gave me a bathtub for the baby, but I got a new one the next day at the shower.  The hand-me-down was blue and the one at my shower was pink, so I gave the blue tub to my neighbor at her shower for her little boy (due a couple of weeks before my girl) the next week.  She was incredibly grateful.  I think it's GREAT to pass used items on to someone who will use them!!

I think that is an awesome idea.  I've never given away used stuff at a baby shower, John is my first so I guess I've never had a chance.  However, I don't hesitate to give people stuff that I have saved.  I always donate to charity.  I plan on donating our carseats to te Fire Department.  They recylce the ones that have expired but I am not sure what that means.

most of my stuff is hand me downs or from yard sales.i think its a great idea. my baby shower is on sunday too =) i was excited but both my mom and sister came down with swine flu and this is my first baby, moms first grand baby so i really wanted her to be there. so now i'm not as excited.
