Little Girl Can't Let Go Of Daddy As He Prepares to Leave for Iraq
This is one of those photos that say a million words. Four year old Paige Bennethum is seen in the photo above, holding her daddy's hand, refusing to let go as he prepares for his leave to Iraq. I saw this photo on Parent Dish and it almost made me tear as I read the article.
"Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Brett Bennethum was preparing to depart from Fort Dix, N.J., for Iraq, leaving behind his pregnant wife and two little girls. His family was there to see him off. His commanding officer didn't have the heart to tell Paige she had to let go of her daddy.
"I didn't want to let go of him," she told NBC Philadelphia."

poor kid but poor dad he's gonna have to leave everything at least she thinks he'll always come back...and you know he's probably always gonna think the worst. i mean he's out and battle and all.
aw that picture makes me cry.
As the wife of a soldier, I live in fear of this day and seeing my child unable to let go of their father. My husband was deployed through most of my pregnancy and it was very difficult on me...as an adult! But kids are strong, especially military kids...they understand how important their dad and mom's jobs are --- even when the rest of the world doesn't!!
That is seriously one of the saddest things I've ever seen.
This picture makes me cry =(
That is so sad. With an 18 month old and an ex husband determined to be a soldier I am so afraid that one day I will have a picture of my own to match that one.
this photo is so sad. i can't stop looking at it.
Hello
This is really very sad and I had tears in my eyes when I read this.Soldiers are real hero who protect our lives.Really thank you for sharing this emotional photo with us.You have done a good job.
If there is so much information out there about how dangerous people with military experience are, to anyone, why do people have kids with them? Or if they were made by other men, why do people let the kids around the military?
@a12906@xanga - What information are you talking about? What military people are "so dangerous"?
Yes, there are cases of men and women with PTSD who commit suicide or hurt others...but there are civilians who get PTSD from car wrecks or anything "traumatic" that can happen to you. It's not just military and JUST BECAUSE someone is military doesn't mean they are more likely to suffer from PTSD. It can happen to anyone who has experienced/witnessed some form of trauma. Women who have particularly traumatic birth experiences have been diagnosed with PTSD. Does that mean women who have had children are dangerous to anyone. And the thing with PTSD -- it doesn't MEAN you are dangerous. It stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disoder and it can manifest itself in different ways, the majority of cases are people who are NOT a danger to themselves or anyone else.
My husband has been deployed, my brother has been deployed, my dad was in the military, so was my grandfather and two of my uncles. None of them are a danger to anyone, except terrorists during deployments. The majority of people I spend my time with are military because of my husband's job and we live in a town with three huge military bases (two are Air Force and one is Army.) Being on base is the place where I feel safest and it's NOTHING but military.
I'd love to see this information you are talking about saying that people with military experience are so dangerous to anyone.
This hurts my heart...
This picture definitely made me tear up. My husband is active duty with the US Army and we have an 18 month old daughter. He's getting ready to return from a 12 month tour in Iraq in about a month, but I'm all ready terrified he'll be leaving again. I know how attach our daughter will be to him by the time he has to leave again, so that makes it even harder to see this picture. I hate seeing things like this, because I know it's always possible in my life.
I hope he makes it back safe and sound!
@a12906@xanga - You're obviously fucking retarded. Military personnel aren't more dangerous than anyone else. Would you say that shit about a surgeon, who could precisely and purposely puncture a vital artery and kill you being able to say it was an accident? What about a police officer, who could at any given time accidentally shot an innocent bystander in a drug bust? What about people who hunt with guns, bows, etc. I guess they're all not supposed to have children either and no one should be left around them. I guess all the lives their all protecting and saving doesn't mean shit. Fucking moron.
That is so SO sad. I remember when my uncle was in Iraq, my cousin spent the night in my house and woke up in the middle of the night screaming at the top of her lungs from a nightmare she had about her dad. :/
This has to be the saddest thing in the world:(
This breaks my heart.
Aww man.
@NOTdaGRLnextDR@xanga - Military surgeons haven't been dehumanized like soldiers have. How do you think soldiers are actually able to do what they do? Cops get dehumanized, I agree, just not near as much. Hunters are dangerous, I agree, just not near as much. None of these people protect and save. Not only do you clearly not think things through before commenting, you already know, therefore resort to name-calling. Why?
@XxFireXboltxX@xanga - I'm talking about information I spent hours, literally hours, pouring over. Just type it into a search engine. All military people, that's what military people. PTSD is not the only thing. They're only able to go out their and do what they do because they've been dehumanized. Military personell aren't more likely to suffer from PTSD? That's interesting.
