Pregnant Barbie decided one day to go buy some maternity clothes since hers were starting to get a bit... small. And they looked funny when she wore them. And let's face it, that purple dress was getting boring.
"This shirt was once a whole dress!"
So she set out, blissfully unaware of what was in store for her.
The first sign something might be amiss...
"What IS this?!" she exclaimed from among the shelves of over-priced, undersized "maternity" items.
The enormous and hideous Uggs didn't even fit her swollen feet. "Screw this!" she said, digging for her phone.
"I have... friends and relatives with children!"
And so she scrounged up some borrowed maternity clothes, to the relief of her wallet. Maybe they weren't her style:
But at least the shoes fit most of the way on her feet and didn't cost $100.
Did you buy maternity clothes, or did you borrow them? What do you think about the price of maternity clothes?

Ya know... back in my day, "Maternity Barbie" didn't exist - I just stuffed a tiny "baby barbie" under her shirt!! (Man I feel old now... but that is a darn cool doll.)
My mom is pretty high maintenance so she bought all her stuff new. The stuff was REALLY cute too! I remember me and my sister were just following her and helping her with errands. When we first walked in we didn't even know it was a maternity store! We almost started browsing for ourselves before we realized all the mannequins were pregnant. lol
That is just weird.
my mom or his mom buys me clothes but for me i just go to the thrift store and buy large and xlarge clothes and hope they fit. i hate most maternity clothes.
The "shirt that was a whole dress" is hilarious.
Maternity clothes are SO expensive... My cousin who just had a baby last October brought me over a bunch of stuff =]
i stuffed my fat ass in regular clothes. lol
i bought one pair of maternity pants, and i got one pair from a friend for christmas.
both were from old navy. They were the only maternity pants I ever saw that weren't completely hideous.
ROFL. This was awesome.
No I didn't buy maternity clothes. I was able to get away with buying regular clothes in a bigger size. I did look at maternity clothes, but my experience was kind of similar to Miss Barbie Mattel. The stuff I would wear was way too expensive and the stuff I could afford were things I would not be caught dead in.
lol.
i never outgrew any of my clothes which was very lucky on my part
Motherhood Maternity isn't bad and it's reasonably priced. But the only things I have bought from there are the breastfeeding bras there $16 a piece so that isn't too bad.
But yeah I too, just bought bigger clothes!
Luck for me my feet didn't get swollen.
I wore a lot of hubby's clothes and went to thrift shops. My mom got me a few things too. I've never bought any maternity clothes new. I just couldn't deal with spending that much money on something I was only going to wear a few months.
I bought a few items, borrowed a few, and received some for Christmas/birthday presents. If I had known when I got pregnant with my first that I would be pregnant 4 times in 5 years, I would have spent some money while I was working and got some more maternity clothes. Oh well.
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - yes
I bought an amazing long-sleeve maternity shirt and a nursing bra when I was pregnant, but other than those two purchases I just made do with what I had. I wore a lot of skirts towards the end. :/
I just thought about how a lot of maternity clothes actually are pretty small. I bought all mine in medium and realized I can wear them even when I'm not pregnant cause they look like regular shirts. Except their puffier. But they sure are cute. I don't get very big when I'm pregnant (I'm smaller this time than last time) so the small ones don't bother me. I got medium pants and they're still too big.
And! They weren't that expensive. I got 40 dollar maternity pants for 12 bucks at JC Penney when they were having a huge sale. And I got shirts for 5-7 dollars.
I bought all my things, but I mainly went online to oldnavy.com they are reallyu reasonable and had pretty cute stuff
wow.
Most of my regular clothes fit during most of my pregnancy. I had to wear my jeans UNDER my belly and use a belly band, but other than that, I didn't buy a whole lot of maternity clothes. But maternity tshirts from Target? Oh, amazing. I still wear those things!
Is there really a pregnant Barbie? I wore maternity clothes back in the 70's they were really ugly, so I stuck with oversized men shirts and large jeans!

@HannahNow@xanga - There really is. This doll was discontinued in 2002 after outrage from Wal-Mart shoppers resulted in a recall. Apparently it promoted teenage and unwed pregnancy, despite the fact that Barbie's friend Midge was married, had a wedding ring, and had a husband and older son that were sold separately.
Ha ha!
I just wore bigger clothes during my first pregnancy, bought (then sold) maternity clothes during my second pregnancy, and I've gotten a TON of free maternity clothes during my third pregnancy and some are on loan from a friend.
I got most of my maternity clothes from thrift stores and second hand shops, you can find some really great buys in some of these.
Lots of borrowed stuff and a few second-hand things. :) My sister-in-law had a lot of her stuff left after her baby 2 years ago, so she's letting me borrow a lot of that stuff. And i picked up a few things from a second-hand store down the road. Very comfy and best of all -- CHEAP!!!
Wait until Hannah Montana dolls get pregnant.
