  • Phil Coke, I Love You!

    post from If Evolution Works

Today I took my son to his first baseball game. Yes, THAT game. The game that I didn’t think we’d get to see.

The game started at 1:05 at Yankee Stadium and we got there around 11 for batting practice. One of the staff there told us the best section to watch was from 112 and we headed right over there.

The section was pretty quiet compared to other sections and we parked ourselves about 10 rows up from the field.  We’re watching everything that’s going on and see a player pointing at us.  We wave back. He points again……….and throws a ball right to us. I mean RIGHT to us. Lands right in my son’s hand.

The day could have ended right there and then. There’s no way it could get better than that.

To me, THAT is what going to a game is all about. When you connect with a player for even 10 seconds. THAT is the reason you’ll shell out $250 for a pair of tickets. THAT is what makes a kid want to be a baseball player when he gets older.

It’s sad to me that games are so expensive. That families who would love to see a game and kids who could really use a healthy idol can barely afford to go to a game. That parking costs $40, that a hot dog costs over $5.00.  But such is life, I guess.

Anyway, I just want to say thank you to Phil Coke, for making my day, and most importantly for making my son’s day.  He went from a Red Sox fan to a Yankees fan in 10 seconds. He’s retold the story to anyone and everyone that would listen.  And he’s currently in bed with that ball you tossed him, as well as the glove he used to catch it.

I wish you a long and healthy career! I promise to not stalk you.
