Pole Dancing Doll Isn't the Best Role Model
I came across this while I was reading Perez's celebrity gossip blog (yea I actually read it once in a while, it's my guilty pleasure). I was kind of skimming around not really reading everything when I came across this:
Wow, really?!?!
Like it says on gizmodo -"The box promises "Style." "Interesting." "Music." "Flash." "Up and Down." "Go Round and Round." I never thought I'd actually live to see the day when they would seriously sell something like this. I'm not sure what store sells it or if it's even real since when I googled it, it only takes you to sites like gizmodo.com telling the world about it. Hopefully its not real, but it does seem like you would be able to buy it at a 99 cent store somewhere in Hong Kong.
I'm not a mother, but mothers of the world, what do you think about this if you saw something like it in Toys R Us?
(Mini beer bottles, paper dollar bills, and shot glasses sold separately)

i would never buy that for my children. ever.
What kind of parent would buy this for their daughter? I'm not a mom, but what in the world?
If that's what they're putting in Toys R Us now, I'm glad I never go and it will be a cold day in a very hot dry climate before I start. Who on earth would think this was a good idea? SOME women might do it for fun but most do it out of last ditch necessity from my understanding. Which brings up an interesting point, what is it with our society and glamourizing desperateness?
hm i'm suspicious it's fake if nothing legitimate turns up on google.
lol... start teaching your daughter young! I hope this is fake all joking aside!
hum... Well. I prefer dolls that are peeing or "burping" or making babies noises than something like that.
This kind of doll is make by men, or women who d'ont have children... It's not a good way of showing what is being a women to our children. Where is the male version? Chippendale or beer drinking ?
I really prefer a fake vaccuum cleaner... even if it's not so "femininist", it's less... strange and gross.
When I was a young girl (aroudn 4 years old), my mum gave me a huge doll (1m) who scared me so much and still scares me !! She was awful... Bbbbrrr
wow, fake or real still -____-" worthy
probably for pedos.
I'm not a mom, But if I were, there's no chance in hell I'd buy that for my kids.
If this is real, I bet it's sold at places like Specers or adult novelty shops as a joke....or at least I hope. I would never ever buy this for a child!
Yes this is real they really have this in stores and yes this was on the news and i was shocked when i was listening to this because whoever made this mess should really be ashamed of themselfs. its one thing to dress the dolls up slutty and yes thats taken it over bored but now they have a doll dancing with a pole and there is nothing innocent about this and they cant even say that its not pole dancing or say that it wasnt meant to be for that because thats a bunch of bullshit there intention was that and there is no denying it. and hellls no i would NEVER bring that doll in my house or buy that mess for my kids and they should take it off the market like YESTERDAY.
WTF.
@sophia@xanga - Yeah, I don't think it's real, to be honest.
Way to turn your daughter into a hooker.
lol that's funny as hell.
On a more serious note, I wouldn't buy it if I had children.
OMG so funny, but no I wouldn't buy it for any child. I would love to be a fly on the wall at the house of a parent that would though.
Calm down people, this toy isn't going to turn up at your local toys 'r us, or sears, walmart, or wherever it is that your kids' toys come from. Yes, most toy companies (or just companies in general) are profit driven and will throw out anything they think will sell (see cabbage patch doll that eats your fingers), but allowing this to go into mass production for family stores is pretty much setting up your company to fail, as well as get some angry press and letters.
Its probably just a gag gift to be sold at Spencers or Hot Topic. I wouldn't even be surprised if its being sold at some weird store in Japan, i've seen weirder things come out of those types of places.
I seriously hope that it's fake... A sick joke, if it is one. I would NEVER buy something like that for my kids if it was real.
I am shocked and apalled/ I use to counsel children, and you know what they are overly sexualized as it is without something like this!
what was the guy who designed this thinking.
wait wait! maybe pole dancing has a differnt meaning in other cultures. the doll isn't dressed like a slut so maybe this is something normal elsewhere?
I think the only people who would buy it would be college kids giving one another gag gifts or realllllly bad parents.
That doll is ugly. :p Aside from that, I think that a child would be more interested in what it does separately than what it is supposed to represent. If it comes with some kind of music accessories and I were still a child, I'd probably be more interested in making the noise than playing with the doll.
I remember begging to get a Barbie that talked when I was a kid. You had to push a button on her and she'd say specific words or phrases. I think the doll had an actual theme, but I didn't care, I don't even remember what kind of theme it had. I just remember being delighted that it talked. That doll eventually ended up in a naked pile with the rest of them, discarded as boring after a while, and then eventually completely lost all together. :p
I don't know about in Hong Kong (because I don't live there and I don't know anyone who does to ask), but I would think that it would be extremely ridiculous to attempt marketing this type of doll in America. I don't know any mother who would buy it for her child, or any father for that matter. I couldn't really fathom it.
I don't think this doll would be a bad influence on a child, because I don't think a kid would make the connection even as blatant as this is, unless they are specifically told by someone. And the accessories are very likely to end up lost before the doll itself. :p
However, regardless of what I think, this is not something I would expect to be marketable in America. I'm actually surprised it's marketable in Hong Kong. I would be interested to see if this doll is doing well there, if it's real.
It might just be something that was thought up to see how many people would get upset over it. :/
But, seriously, that doll is ugly and it looks like it's wearing a maternity gown. xP I guess they thought if they could make the doll look as unattractive as possible, and put it in a dress that has nothing to do with the profession, that it would negate the fact that it is a stripper doll to parents? Haha...not likely. :p
I would laugh if someone tried to market it here. They'd be run out of business!
Ill bet its a gag gift and not meant for children. If it cant be found on sale or in stores anywhere, then it may even be a gag photo. I cant get riled up over something that isnt even real..lol. Beyond that...I definitely would buy that for a guy for kicks...especially if shes spending too much money in strip clubs, we are in a recession afterall!
I once bought a lollipop that had a girl wrapped around it to send to a friend who was stationed in Iraq. Im my letter, I told him I bet he misses having a pretty girl to suck on. He and his buddies got a kick out of that...thats the sort of thing this is. So not worth the energy to get mad about. Seriously.
