I've recently come to the conclusion that going through pregnancy in some ways is a little like going through puberty all over again.
Puberty hits everyone at a little different time and certain things start to change earlier in others and some later. Not only that but puberty is a little different for everyone in terms of what actually physically happens.
Pregnancy, in my opinion seems to be very comparable to puberty
in that. Granted there are always some congruities among all pregnancy, but, for example, not everyone gets morning sickness, not everyone gets stretch marks, not everyone gets acne, not everyone experiences constipation, not everyone gains excess weight etc.
However in my brief experience in pregnancy (16 weeks) these are the main areas I see that puberty and pregnancy have in common.
Guys some of this may be TMI...so read on at your discretion.
- Acne along my chin line, my least favorite part of this pregnancy gig
- Darkening of the hair (specifically on my tummy near my bellybutton)
- Mood swings (Kevin has dealt very well with this)
- A propensity towards oversensitivity...leading to tears
- Sore breasts due to growth
- The ability to sleep for hours on end and still be tired
- A heightened sense of smell
- Changing vaginal discharge
- Water retention in my abdomen and lower back.
If you've been pregnant before did you notice any similarities between puberty and pregnancy at all?

The clumsiness! As your body grows, you start to over/underestimate distances. I have knocked so many things over since becoming pregnant, and I did back when I was going through puberty too
Puberty results in driving parents crazy. Pregnancy results in your own parents morphing into something totally weird that likes to buy tiny socks and talk to the baby as if it were a dog.
Just wait till postpartum...wow, I was so shocked at how much and how fast everything changed. It's insane.
Enjoy your pregnancy, it's such an amazing time. :)
You are just so darn cute I can hardly stand it! I'm praying you have a safe and healthy rest of your pregnancy!
acne . but only when im suppost to be on my period . but with my first pregnancy i never broke out .
lol all of the above happened to me =/ and more. i slept a lot the beginning and end.
and i ate a lot towards the end.
but it did feel like puberty. specially since i was a senior in highschool and i felt very awkward lol .. which puberty tends to do lol
now that I think about it there are a lot of similarities :P Im on week 7 with our second and each pregnancy in iteself is SO diffrent! Congrats and Enjoy!!
LOL. I've always been thin, so my ability to judge distances was awful while I was pregnant. I kept walking into things with my belly. I slept A LOT during the whole thing. Nasty morning sickness the first four months. And I have "fond" memories of trying to carry moving boxes with sore breasts. Oh, the fun!
I've never really thought about it before but you definately have a point! I'm almost 37 wks along with our 1st and I'd say there's been quite a few similarities.
Yeah... I would have to agree with you here- especially about the acne thing. This is my third pregnancy & I didn't have any type of acne issues with the first two.
when your uterus grows sometimes it feels like period cramps... thats what i hate the most! i have acne on my back for the first time in my life... and i never had that even in puberty.

Yes! I think they are strikingly similar. Especially in the hormonal aspect.
@MiSz_kEl_KeL@xanga - Now that I stop and think about it, I feel like my acne may be on a similar cycle to yours...huh, interesting observation!
@jesusmoshes2@xanga - @filtered_sunlight - I've already started having issues with that, I think to myself "I can squeeze through that space" and I totally can't anymore. I'm not even that far along yet! I can't wait to try to do the dishes or brush my teeth at 8 months along!
@meggiek123@xanga - You're so sweet! *HUGS* Thanks hun!
@SeeBeeWrite@xanga - That's hilarious...
Yes, yes, and yes! I hate to admit that my worst change was mood swings, I'm awful when I'm pregnant! My poor hubby!! Thank goodness all of the changes we go through are completely worth it!!!

oh my gosh! that made me giggle but your right.. my first and second full term actually made it pregnancies were totally different but I do have to say that yes, alot like puberty.. and as far as the mood swings and feeling sorry my so I dont think so.. He at least gets to not throw up, be able to sleep and not pee every two minutes!
DEFINITELY noticing the similarities! haha.
