On choosing their baby's name
We found this cute baby name video from this site. Here are the parents reasons for picking their baby daughter's name.
Naming a baby is serious business. It’s gotta be something that they won’t hate you for when they’re 17 (Sorry to my grandfather who suggested Gertrude)It can’t rhyme with something horrible that mean kids at school will use against her, and it should sound nice in your ears, and look nice when written out in cursive.
We’ve had this little girl’s name in our back pocket for as long as I can remember. As soon as we got the news, we started calling her by name immediately… no discussion needed.
We’re not sure if we’re going to call her Ever, Evie, or Veda yet - but we LOVE her name.
Everly Veda Jordan.
You are ours, and we are yours little girl!
Love,
M
How did you pick your child's name?

aw that video was so cutee. and everly is weird but it's not yucky weird, just interesting weird. maybe they should call her lee-lee. that's what i think of as a nickname
We looked up meanings and then decided if we liked the name. Right now we have Jacey. If I had thought about it, I'd have not named her that. Because people always think it's "J.C." It's annoying as heck!
I'm not sure how I feel about Everly. It's not ugly or anything like that. Just different.
My husband came up with our oldest daughter's name- Savannah Jo. He got "Savannah" from a song. When he first suggested it, I wasn't sure if I liked it. But it was like it got stuck in my head....Savannah Savannah Savannah.... After one day of that, I couldn't picture her any other way :)
With our second, my hubby pretty much said since he picked our 1st's name, I got the second. He'd only veto something that he absolutely hated. For a long time we were going with Sloane, but I couldn't come up with a middle name that I loved. And we are very much first-middle people. He vetoed my number 2 Finley Rose, so we went with number 3 Marley Grace. Then 2 months after she was born Marley and Me came out. You have no idea how much I wish I could have found a good Sloane middle name....If I can find a middle name I like, it will be for our next girl. Otherwise, she'll be Lyla Jane. And if we have a boy he'll probably be Elvis Roscoe, partially because, like Savannah, it's the only boy name we agree on. And partly because our families HATE it which makes us LOVE it even more :)
Our son's name is Maddox Lanier. Maddox, I came across somewhere, most likely in People magazine regarding Angelina Jolie's son. We did not name him after her or her son, we chose it because we loved it! Well, rather I loved it. My husband was not a fan at first, but he came around. Lanier is a family middle name. It has been passed down for generations to the first son of the first son, so it was set in stone. I told him seeing as I had no choice in the middle or last name, it was only fair I got to pick the first name! When I was 7 month pregnant, we had been calling him Maddox for several months, and at that time I told my husband if he still disliked it we could choose something else. By that time he loved it as well and he said he couldn't picture our son as anything other than Maddox! It fits him perfectly now that he is here too! It is also not in the top 50 names which was something important to me. My name is Ashley and I didn't want my son to just be "another one of those _____'s"
My husband has had our son's name picked out since he was in high school. Long before I knew him. It wasn't even a question when we found out he was a boy....Andrew Marshall. :)
Our kids' names are Alphabetical, Biblical and in the family. I had to look back into the 1600s to find a Lydia but I did it. We are not actually related to anyone named Zach, but after six kids there isn't much alphabet left after Thomas.
I found my son's name, Raiden, in a 10,000 baby names book. It was really the only boy name I liked. It's also from the video game Mortal Kombat. haha
It fits him perfectly though, and so far, he's the only Raiden I know.
I named my son Gavin -- it's phonetic, easy to spell, isn't on any top 10 baby names lists but isn't so out there that people will forever be asking him what it means. That was key. My sister has a pretty unique name that also happens to be in a number of songs, so all of her life, she's either been asked what her name means or has had the song sung to hear. Not for my kids, no thank you.
@soniiuh@xanga - My dad's name is Verne. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't recommend that anyone name their kid that, haha. If you truly like the name then go for it, but I'll tell you from experience that my dad's name has always been kind of a family joke--he was named after someone in the family. My mom doesn't even call him by his first name; she uses his last (clearly she's not a fan of Verne either, hahaha).
@soniiuh@xanga - My cousin's name is Rayden lol
@xoxokissme@xanga - Oh, haha. I don't know, but something draws me to that name xD That... or maybe Vern in the form of Vernice :) It's a weird infatuation xD
My husband and I are naming our daughter Yuvia Nina Haze. We've been calling her Uvy since we found out the sex. Yuvia (actually spelt Lluvia) was the only name we agreed on. He picked Nina because he liked it, and I picked Haze from the song "Purple Haze."
@KimisBarbie@xanga - One of my friend's son's name is Raiden. I had never heard of it before she named her son that. It's very different
for a good year or more i've been utterly in love with the name 'Isla Juliette' pronounced eye-la. i heard it in a magazine after Isla fisher, whom i'm indifferent to but it sounds so short and sweet.
i'm 15 and a long way off having kids, but if i have a daughter that will deffenently be her name.
my son is Adrian Conant Leslie... adrian conant is a friend of my fiance's and leslie was a friend of mine who was killed at the VA tech shooting. i found out i was pregnant 4 days after it happened so it felt right to name him after such a wonderful person and commemorate her. the fact that he has two middle names also is something in common with his father, who also has two middle names.
we're expecting again... don't know the sex yet. if it's a girl we're using Ivyrose Camille because that was our girl name pick if Adrian had been a girl. i've always loved Ivyrose for some reason, and would just call her Ivy for short. if it's a boy, we like Logan Anastasio. we both like Logan and Anastasio was my mother's maiden name. two of the great grandchildren from that side have Anastasia as either their first or middle name, but that's not the actual family name... so if I have another boy I want to use the real family name.
Kids will make fun of any name. Seriously. I think obvious names should be avoided like Dick, but if a kid is kind of dorky and another kid has a reason to make fun of them, they will find a way. Everly rhymes with anything that ends with an E sound. Pee, flea. Some people might associate it with "Beverly" and sing any song that has that word in it at her. I do like the name Everly though, but it's eerily similar to a name I"ve picked for one of my future children.
I heard it in Star Wars (yes, Star Wars), and just like the sound of it. Anakin means warrior, and people in my family fight for what they believe in. It just stuck. I don't care if people associate it with Star Wars, that's not why I picked it.
