Keeping up with Mommy Trends
Sometimes I can't help getting caught up in the latest trends among mothers. It's sort of like dealing with peer pressure in school. All your classmates are doing it, maybe you should too. I see all these mothers raving about a certain product and then I just have to try it to see what all the hype is about.
Sometimes I love the product and other times I just don't understand why everyone is so excited about it. For example, I tried some Crunchy Clean laundry detergent samples after hearing such good things from other moms. Meh, not that exciting to me. It smelled yummy but I don't think it cleaned any better and the fragrance doesn't transfer to the clothing at all.
I do, however, really love the 'mommy necklace' I bought recently from Mommynecklaces.com. I was sucked into their fan page on facebook during a sale, so I ordered one. I haven't been comfortable wearing my necklaces since having kids because they love to pull on them and I'm afraid they'll break them. This mommy necklace is the perfect solution because it's pretty much baby-proof. Babies are supposed to play with it while nursing or whenever they feel like it. They're stylish too, I love all the different colour combinations and pendant styles.
So yes, I give in to trends sometimes, but only if they're worthwhile to me. Word of mouth is a powerful phenomenon among mothers, and you can often find some pretty amazing products by listening to it.

Ohh....I've been looking for a good necklace that my son can tug on and play with....thanks for the suggestion!!!
Yeah, I hear raves about crunchy clean all the time, but I just don't see a need to buy that. Good old Purex or Tide works good for me. We did just switch to Arm and Hammer, and for $5 for 64 loads, I think that was a pretty good deal (and the detergent works amazingly well).
Love the mommy necklaces. I might have to try one. I miss wearing earrings and necklaces now that I have kids!
I totally ordered one of those necklaces the other day when you first posted about it.
This necklass sounds like a great idea. My wife will "hopefully" be breastfeeding our first child, (due any day now) and just want to make sure it has been approved by JPMA before purchasing for her. Of course thats not all she will be getting and this is more for my Son.

Giving in to trends that you can afford to give in to isn't a bad thing at all. It's fun to indulge once in a while, and besides...in the case with the necklace you found, it actually serves a function! :)
I don't think there's any harm in it, provided it can be afforded. I think it's really cool that they are making things for mothers that are stylish and are made specifically so that babies and young kids cannot so easily ruin them. It used to be that mothers really had to choose between function or style. Which was not fair, and I'm glad that they are coming out with so many different things that are both stylish and functional (or at least durable!) for mothers. :)
