  • Team Beauty Queen

    Mama Pig by Mama Pig

Last year was our first time at the Buddy Walk. The year prior Emily was only weeks out from recovering from her heart surgery and I didn't want to risk the crowd. Because I got a late start last year in my planning, I didn't come up with the most creative of names. Team Aguirre was out because Whitney felt left out, so we went with the rather straightforward "Team Emily".

I knew that this year I wanted to create a fantastic team name and have tshirts made up for the walk. Emily has always been called "Beauty Queen" (she will be the first Miss America with Down syndrome, mark my words), so it seemed fitting that we call ourselves Team Beauty Queen. Just look at that gorgeous girl posing for her closeup.

My plan is to put that picture on our team tshirts. Our goal this year is a lofty 500, double our goal that we set and met last year. I even convinced Matt to take the day off and walk with us this year. Team Beauty Queen is 9 strong. All of the kids had such a good time last year and have been counting down the months until we could do it again. Jake has even expressed an interest in volunteering this year to help set things up. How could a mom not be proud when her children not only long to participate in the walk to support their sister, but also wish to volunteer their time to setting up and breaking down the booths?

That is it from my world. Have a wonderful day!! 2 more days until Sarah gets here; YEA!!

    • About Me: Hello everyone. I am Mama Pig. I am a very busy mom of eight children. Five by birth and three my marriage. While it is a busy life, it is one I wouldn't change for the world. Our oldest is 18 and will be graduating in May. We are even in the boys/girls department with four each. Two just turned 14, two just turned 12, one will be 10 this year, and the babies are 4 and 2. There are no twins in the mix, just step siblings that happen to be close in age. You will read alot about Down syndrome when you read my blog. Our youngest daughter was born with Down syndrome as well as a congenital heart defect. These are two issues I am extremely passionate about. I just resumed classes at the local community college. My goal is to someday reach law school with the hopes of focusing on family law.
