  • Breastfeeding Dolls!! - Bebe Gloton

There's a new type of doll on the market and this one breastfeeds.

Yup, you read that right. Created in Spain, "Bebe Gloton"  (which translates as Baby Glutton) is a baby doll that girls can nurse.

The doll comes with a colorful bra for the girl to wear. The bra has flowers where the nipples would be. When you put the doll's mouth to the flower, the baby starts making suckling noises. The idea of the toymakers were to teach girls that breastfeeding is perfectly natural.

What do you think? Would you buy your daughter this doll?

    Wow ... that's ... umm ... interesting?

  • songbird27@xanga

My daughter already breastfeeds all her dolls.  To her, that's just how babies are fed by their mommies.  She thinks bottle are for dads and other family members to use.  That's just how she sees things.

I'm not sure, I've already seen this and my first reaction was to be a bit disgusted. But it is a natural thing to breastfeed, I'm just not sure that I would by it for my child. I'm torn.

I think it's a cool idea. Why not try it?

  • Riftsong@xanga

Sure.  My daughter will be seeing me breastfeed her new sibling.  She likes to do anything I do.  I probably wouldn't give the doll to a kid that wasn't familiar with breastfeeding though.

  • xjadersx@xanga

LOL this is hilarious. That's awesome.

  • SeeBeeWrite@xanga

Eh. Why not? I would hope my kid didn't need a bra with an artist's rendering of nipples. I always just pretended. If I have a girl, I don't want her to be thinking about bras before she's old enough. Bras suck.

It's nice to see a toy company supporting breastfeeding, but I think the bra bit is silly. Young girls that see adult women breastfeed will mimic it even without a special toy.

  • LiberalArmyWife@xanga

I'm all about some breastfeeding, but this is weird to me. The bra does make things easier, though. Until now, all the girls I've ever known to "breastfeed" their dolls did it the old-fashioned way. I just don't want to walk in on my daughter with her nipples exposed in any form of play. That would give me all kinds of nightmares.

i am pro breastfeeding but i am not certain on this but i would consider it.

I think its a good thing they are promoting breastfeeding but I dont think I would buy this for my daughter.  She already breastfeeds her dolls and I think the bra with the flower nipple is kind of creepy :P  I think I would just save my money and let her continue on with he regular dolls like she does now.

  • Luv2BMama@xanga

I agree with others, I think the doll with the special bra is pretty silly.  Children mimic mom anyways, and if they see mom breastfeeding, then they will try it with their dolls.  My son even would "breastfeed" his lovey, a stuffed rhino.  I thought it was really cute, though my husband was slightly disturbed.  :)  They don't need the doll to show them how to pretend.

Well hell, if guys can have blowup dolls for reenact something natural..why cant little girls reenact the natural act of breastfeeding? lol

  • heidi_helen@xanga

Hmmm... I think you should let girls be girls and not force them to be grown up too early. Breastfeeding is for women, not girls.

  • kat770@xanga

I would buy this for my daughter.  In fact, I went to the website last week when I heard about this and couldn't find out how to order it here in the states.  Any word on if/when we'll get that in the US?

  • JadaFish@xanga

hmmm, don't think I'll be buying that for my daughter(s)!

  • candid_blue_cipher@xanga

I would definitely buy it for my daughter, but she already pretend brestfeeds her babies anyway.

  • Fairywife@xanga

I think that's cute. I'd get it for my daughter.

I am kind of disappointed in some of the negative reaction this doll has gotten. Hello....this is what our breast were made for, what is the difference between a breastfeeding doll vs a pregnant barbie? Why are people calling the little flowers on the shirt "PASTIES" suggesting that they are some kind of "stripper wear" for children. I think it is a great idea, I read a woman's post that said her and her sister used to make shirts with pacifiers sewn into them for they're girls, good idea also...bet they wish they had made these dolls first lol. Relax America, it is completely normal. I 'm just gonna quit now cause I could go on and on. Pro breastfeeding mom of 5, by the way does anyone know where I coukld buy one?

  • VampireOfSeduction@xanga

My initial response was kind of a "wtf?" one, but thinking back... I breastfed my baby dolls.

  • Love_Laugh_Write@xanga

@heidi_helen@xanga - I agree. Let your kids be kids. They shouldn't be thinking about things that adults have to think about.

I don't have anything against breastfeeding (I mean, that's kind of the whole point of breasts), but...this...I don't know. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't be buying this for her. It would kind of disturb me. I know, I know. That probably sounds unreasonable. But when they're that young, they shouldn't be pretending to breastfeed their dolls. It's not like they need the practice at that time in their life.

I had no idea kids have actually pretended to breastfeed their dolls. That's a little strange, in my opinion.

Yes, it's a natural thing to do, and I get why they decided to make this doll. It's just not something I'm in favor of.

  • Dargon@xanga

Seems like a rather odd way to teach this. Though I think breastfeeding is natural and not something to be ashamed of (hell, perhaps even something to be proud of), I'm not sure what I think about this approach.
